Pickup Question
Posted By: Matt
Thanks go out to David McDonald for being generous with his time in speaking with me before I bought this. Also, a big thank you to Pete Calderon at Heritage for working with me through a complicated bidding situation. I've had to sell some stuff I never planned on to make it happen, but I feel fortunate to have it. |

Pickup Question

I don't think I would try goo-gone, it might bleed through the card and eat the signature. If the signature is ink, I would think dabbing some water on there would work best, and probably not affect the signature. |

HA! I sat there for a minute looking at the card and trying to figure out how it got a NM7 grade....until I realized it was signed by Gehrig. |

Pickup Question

Did you buy the card for the autograph or because you wanted a Goudey Gehrig? I get the feeling that you wanted the autograph. We never plan on anything bad to happen but picture this... you crack the slab, you get your water and materials ready. Ooops, you accidentally drop the card in the water and mess up the signature or you drop the card on a corner and now you can have a card with a cleaned back and squished corner... |

Matt: Way to go, brah! You put your head down and charged through the line. A great score! Definitely a card to put under your pillow when you sleep. GooGone would be murder. Don't even think it. Focus on what's awesome about the card. Gehrig held that cardboard in his hand and beautifully scripted his name below his classic portrait. Congratulations! |

I've been back to this thread four or five times, just to look at the card again. The signature is perfect. It's in the perfect place, on my favorite Gehrig card - right under his smile, right above the facsimile signature on the card, at almost the same angle. |

Al - thanks - I keep picking it up and staring at it as well. I'm thankful it was tucked away in the depths of the Heritage catalog - I've spoken with a few people that said they didn't even see it offered. |

Pickup Question

Yea, the Lou-Gone is a scary proposition. But what I would consider, is to have the line "Auto Grade Only NM 7" removed and replaced with Authentic. You can't put a number on that great script IMO. I would trade away a good portion of my stuff (except my Bobby Orr), to have that card in it's present form Matt. |

Pickup Question

I certainly would not do anything that would risk the signature - I was just wondering if there is something out there that is safe on the surface. Perhaps a robotic arm and a razor blade... |
