Default What do Heritage and Goodwin etc. prices indicate?

Bunch of auctions in recent days, wonder if any consensus on trends in pricing...

As I told someone this morning....except for those few pre-war guys playing the number on the slab game (registry), which is still big and fun for some, it seems to me more folks are buying the cards and paying up for great looking ones, regardless of the number on the slab.

The Lenox listed as the only graded black variation hit 11k, I believe it is the second known brown example, not sure if this is a good or bad thing for the buyer.

T206 Lenox Black Joe Lake (St. Louis, No Ball) PSA VG-EX 4 - The Only Confirmed SGC or PSA Graded Example!

PSA 10 Ozzie Smith rookie went for only 5k vs a previous sale of 20k. The hobby is doomed.

Come on, Jay. Ozzie's sweet side burns are worth at least a couple hundred.

What a difference it makes when one buyer becomes a seller.

Default The card is honestly much harder to find

in incredible shape than you guys are making it out to be. I think 5 grand relative to what other PSA 10 rookies have sold for is not a bad price. I do think 20K was way to much.

Strong or weak prices vary from card to card, and also involve expectations that vary from buyer to buyer. But if I had to make a blanket generalization about monetary values, I'd agree with what Leon said. I see increasing amounts of collectors trusting their own eyes over a sticker grade based on technical and arbitrary grade definitions, as evinced by cards like the e90-1 Shoeless at Heritage.

If that Lenox back turns out to be a real Brown than I guess it was a bargain.

Honestly I think the headliners in Goodwin sold kinda soft...the green joyce ruth...mantle rc...nm-mt ruth...all soft compared to prior sales.

And if the lake is a brown lenox...is 11K really a bargain?

I think the $20k was a Topps and this was an OPC. Still crazy prices for a 10.

Interesting; I thought the Goodwin Ruth went quite strong, considering the eye appeal of the card. Ditto for the Goodwin Mantle. Goes to show how expectations vary.

Meanwhile in HA the e90-1 Shoeless in 1.5 utterly destroys the latest high, which was set recently in Goodwin by an SGC 1.5. And a mightily tilted 311 PSA 6 in HA hit 38k+. Then of course the Brett 10 in HA hits a lofty 20k, the second 20k+ sale for a Brett 10.

At HA I bid on a few OJs. Seemed to me that the prices were fairly consistent with prices over the last couple years. A few were better deals. I grabbed this Buck Ewing for what I feel is a nice price:
