Baseball Autographs Hall of Fame Rarities I

101) HARRY HEILMANN COMPLETE PERSONAL CHECK MADE OUT TO AND ENDORSED ON THE REVERSE BY HEINIE MANUSH Great item signed by TWO Hall of Famers. Check measures 3 x 7 1/4. and is dated November 15th, 1949. A little known fact is that Manush was actually Heilmann's landlord and this check made out for $100.00 was to pay his rent ! Only a few of these are known to exist and this is the first one I've offered in many years. Manush was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1964 and died in 1971. Heilmann was a FOUR TIME batting champion and played for the Tigers 1914, 1916-1929 and the Reds in 1930 & 1932. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1952 a year after his death in 1951. $1,150.00

103) JOE MEDWICK government postcard signed boldly in pencil , postmarked on reverse 11/3/1949. Member of the fabled Cardinals "Gas House Gang" he was MVP in 1937. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968. He died in 1975. $75.00

104) TOM YAWKEY , LEFTY GROVE & JOE CRONIN Vintage Boston Red Sox autograph album page signed in pencil by all three. Measures 4x5. $150.00

108) EARLE COMBS 3x5 index card. Yankees Hall of Fame centerfielder most notably for the 1927 Murderers Row team. he died in 1976. $100.00

AUTOGRAPHS NON HALL OF FAME RARITIES

113) MOE BERG COMPLETE PERSONAL CHECK Measures 2 3/4 x 6 1/2. Made out entirely in Berg's own hand and dated September 7th , 1938. A catcher from 1923-1939 for Brooklyn, White Sox, Cleveland, Washington & Red Sox. He is better known for his activities as a spy during World War II, A rare autograph in any form checks signed by Berg are particularly tough to find and highly sought after. He died in 1972. $350.00

114) SCHOOLBOY ROWE AUTOGRAPHED 1954 TOPPS BASEBALL CARD One of the toughest signed cards to find in the entire set ! Card #197 Vintage ball point signature on the light portion would grade a 10 ! Card itself is in Ex plus or better condition. An all star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers 1933-1942, Brooklyn 1942 and the Phillies 1943 & 1946-1949. In 1954 when this card was issued Rowe was a coach for the Tigers there was ONLY a seven year window in which he could have signed a card from this set as he died in 1961. $450.00

115) GIL HODGES Vintage 3x5 inscribed "Good Luck Tommy GIL HODGES" the young collectors original handwritten request for Hodges autograph is on the reverse. Legendary Brooklyn Dodgers first baseman most notably on the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn squad. Later he would manage the "Miracle Mets" to their first World Championship in 1969. Astonishing in that this EIGHT TIME All star is still not in the Baseball Hall of Fame but is an almost certain future Famer. He died in 1972. $250.00

117) WILLARD HERSHBERGER Portion of an autograph album page signed in pencil. Measures 2 x 4 1/2. A catcher for the 1938-1940 Reds. Hershberger has the unique distinction of being the only major league player to commit suicide during the season and he did it by cutting his wrists in his hotel between games of a double header in 1940. $200.00

119) MIKE GONZALEZ 3x5 on which a magazine photo picturing him in Cardinals uniform has been attached at the top. Signed beautifully in fountain pen below the photo. One of major league baseball's first star players to emerge from Cuba he was a catcher from 1912-1932 for the Braves , Reds , Giants , Cardinals & Cubs. Later a coach and manager for the Cardinals. A very tough autograph ! after his playing career he returned to his native Cuba where he died in 1977. Virtually inexessible to American autograph collectors. $150.00

Considered to be one of the greatest defensive first baseman of all time and certainly one of the two greatest of the 19th century & dead ball era. (Hal Chase being the other). A tough autograph to find he died in 1952. $200.00

126) VINCE DiMAGGIO Vintage postcard photo signed in fountain pen. Early image and signature. Heavy stock blank back measures aprox 3 1/4 x 5 1/2. Pictured in Boston Braves uniform. 128) ROGER CLEMENS 8x10 color photo pictured in Boston Red Sox uniform. Bold sharpie signature on the light portion. I obtained this item from the original collector who obtained Clemen's autograph IN-PERSON at a baseball card show appearence. $65.00
