Hopefully, Jolly is taking a month off, sitting in a lounge chair on the beaches of Miscut Island with a cocktail in his hands choosing between which OC9 he's taking back to his hotel room that night.

From looking at his profile, he hasn't logged in since late August, and his last post was a few days before then.

I hope he's ok; these days, when someone drops off the radar like that, you never know.

It's troubling to say the least. I hope he is simply just incarcerated. That's better than the alternative. Everyday posters don't simply disappear for a month.

WTF, you hope he's incarcerated? LOL.... I mean that is kind of drastic. There are at least a few alternatives other than incarceration or death (God forbid).....

I've noticed there are always a couple formerly-frequent posters who have gone quiet. Most of them come back, some don't. Whether the ones who don't have found other forums, lost interest, or gone off to the great card show in the sky is beyond me.

Bobby,

I know Darren submitted with our Swingin Sixties PSA group. Surely, you have his contact information. Google his full name and see what comes up, or give him a text. Not posting in over a month is one thing, but not even logging in is potentially bad news. God forbid...

As someone who has observed comings and goings, I would agree with this.
His registration is 11 yrs old and he has an outdated phone number. I sent him an email so we'll see. I don't usually think the worst. I usually think they are taking a break or just doing something else. Of course there can be bad news but that isn't normally the issue.

Nice to see the concern for a liked forum member. It does seem he had some (serious?) health concerns as indicated by a post earlier this year.

His form wasn't as "nice" as some of the others. Some of the guys put their cell phone number...their street address...etc...etc.....his form was just kinda like a google docs sheet with no info. I feel horrible.

Yikes. I have not been active on the whole enough lately to have realized, but sure hope Darren is ok. My google results on what is probably a fairly common name in California are not turning up anything one way or the other. If anyone finds anything please keep us posted.

Hope you are out there still shaking your head over OC's vs. straight grade slabs somewhere, Jolly!

Darren contacted me a while ago. He has had some health issues, and other things, but is trying to get back into it. He said he will try to post soon.

“I have even heard on good authority that I was dead...The report of my death was an exaggeration.”
-Mark Twain

Man, it was nice to see the concern for me here. I really appreciate it!! Of course, I ain’t no fool, so I know some members were hoping my torch had been snuffed. Sorry to disappoint.

But I will say, if my current health/life condition was put into a slab by our Newport Beach overlords, I would probably only come back a PSA 4 (or perhaps a half point bump to a 4.5) right now. However, I can see a grade of a 7 or 8 in the near future (knock on cardboard!).

Shout out to Bobby: Be honest, if I was gone, your life would improve greatly. Is there anyone else even remotely as annoyingly involved with your group-sub efforts than me??? I think not.

The good(?) news is I’ve been working on some stuff, so there will be some updates to my entertaining (your opinion may vary) “Collectorisms” and “Grading Has Clouded Our Minds” threads, so stay tuned.

Thanks again to everybody who reached out here and through PMs and whatnot. Truly awesome!!

Guess it's time to put this back in the closet...

prisonuniform.jpg

On a side note, thank God for my baseball card knowledge during my incarceration. I can't tell you how many times I talked myself out of being shivved by relating the story of how The Mick's 1952 Topps card is NOT his rookie. A life-saver for sure!!!

Bobby's OCD affliction is gonna cause his face to break out in hives dealing with PSA. I think I need a 6 month vacation.

Great to hear you are alive, and doing well Darren! Also that you are indeed not in prison

Looking forward to your new additions of collectorisms. You take care.

PS - Please include a “collectorism” for an OC card that is deceptive due to t/b or design oddity - that kind of thing. We discussed briefly in a postwar pickup thread I think a few months back…

Count me among those who are glad to see you're alive and not in jail (or kidnapped, stranded on a mountain, etc.)

Best wishes for a quick recovery.

Glad to hear that all is (pretty) well!

And really glad to hear that you aren't in the slammer - I can't imagine a fella who has this two-foot tall tattoo on his chest would fare very well there.

I'm going to publish a book on my stay at San Quentin. The early title idea is "Cardboard is the New Black."

That tat pairs nicely with the new black teardrop tattoo under my eye.

Yeah, but as we all know, there's quite a range of eye appeal within the technical grades. Do you think you'd be a PSA 4 PWCC-PQ? PWCC-HE? Purple Sticker?

Good timing Darren, Bobby just shared a ransom note with us demanding six PSA Carolina Brights in exchange for your safe return. So far we only came up with one, LOL. Good to hear it was all a hoax!

I can say, after 10 years of lurking and reading threads, what finally pushed me over to actually sign on to this board last year was not simply to benefit more from the knowledge of the group, which is impressive, but the camaraderie of its members is cool too.
