I'm going to guess Elmer Miller is one of them, but only because his name is on the file ... and he did play with Ruth for a couple years ... Do you have a larger version? |

He was a pretty good pitcher too, at least for a few years - his name fit too well in that group to leave out though |

I believe that the second from the left is Elmer Miller, would agree with the Baker comment, and of course Ruth is on the end. |

The way The Babe looks, I would say that these were just a bunch of local Yahoos who he had to play with in a local barnstorming game or something and he wasn't having fun! |

fun picture in general. the Babe doesn't look real happy. Wonder what Elmer is thinking about. What is the other player saying to Baker. Enquiring minds want to know. |

Those three players should date the photo as 1921 or 1922 |

second from left is wally pipp third from left is either meusel or schang as they both had prominent chins. I think miller is probably the one with his head down. |

Baker and Ruth were teammates in 1921 and 1922. Here are the Yankee rosters for those years from BaseballLibrary.com. That should narrow it down some. (I am having some trouble with the site at present. Usually when you click on an underlined player it will bring you to his stat/bio page and often there will be a small photo of the guy which would be useful in ID-ing the players in the dugout . Right now I am only getting an error message). I have a gut feeling that the third player from the left is Ping Bodie although I reserve the right to be wrong. |

I'm 99% sure that the far left isn't Carl Mays. Mays had a much more prominent nose, almost like a beak, and a much "sharper" look to his face that the guy on the left has. |

One thing that strikes me about this picture (regardless of who's who, because I'm not good at this game) is how close together everyone is seated. |

Would guess that is is dougout size. If you have ever been into the dougouts of a teams training facility Not much room. Especially with a 25 man roster. Also consider that in those days, the pitching staffs were smaller and there weren't the setup men and closers of today's game. I have noticed that even at the fantasy camps when teams have great comradery the players sit closer so could be a combination of both factors. I do notice that Ruth is a little farther apart from the other players indicating a little different status. Body language speaks volumes. |

It looks like the picture is from 1921. If Frank Baker is in the photo, that narrows it to 1921-22. According to the uniform database on baseballreference.com, the Yankees wore the pinstriped white caps in 1921 and switched to their solid blue caps in 1922. |

1921 would make sense. Especially with the uniforms pictured. Also makes sense with the players listed above. Miller played intermittantly with the Yankees but was the full time center fielder in 1921 including the 1921 World series. Completely possible that this picture is from the 1921 world series. Also would explain the expressions on the players faces especially later in the series. |
