I'm guessing SGC wouldn't give it the same grade. Those are some pretty soft looking corners.

You are going to have to break the card out of the PSA holder before you submit it to SGC. SGC has a policy where SGC will not do corssovers for cards in excess of $500, and I am sure the OJ Brouthers is worth much more than that.

Because it's a seven, I personally wouldn't crack it and chance the downgrade to an 80. Keep it a 7. Maybe PSA will reholder it in a better fitting holder.

If you really don't care about the grade, go for it.

Default Crossover PSA to SGC ?

I was at the Chicago show on Friday and submitted 15 cards to SGC. All of the cards were graded by other companies and valued well over $1,000.00 each. I asked SGC not to break the card out of the holder if they couldn't cross over with the same grade. I would call SGC if you don't feel comfortable breaking the card out of the holder yourself. SGC had no problem with the value of my cards and my directions.

This is the problem, here is a NM 7 SGC84 of Hanlon and I can't see the Brouthers being equal in grade? So I'll probably call SGC and tell them to leave if it can't be an 84.

When you filled out the SGC submission form, did you declare the card value at over $500?

Scott Hersh from SGC emailed me recently and told me SGC would not be able to crack a PSA holder if the card was valued at over $500.

I called and asked them about that and they said if I marked down $500 then they would cross them. I guess $500 is all SGC wants to be responsible for....

When I filled out the form at the show, the guy who helped me had no problem with any of my cards. I valued one card at $15,000.00. I hope he knew what he was doing! I will call SGC on Monday to verify the transaction, and report my findings.

Jay, you're right about that! That is a sweet OJ. The sad part is that Lew just sold a Kelly GAI 1 or 1.5 that had an image just as nice but the back had a few scrap book remnants and only got about $1136 for it. That was one of the better OJ deals in a while on ebay.

In any case, OJs look better in the SGC or GAI holders because of the black background.

It wouldn't surprise me if the card crossed over at the same grade but it would be a little disappointing to see it happen. If the Hanlon was used as a measuring stick I would figure the Brouthers would be a 6 at best.

Default Crossover PSA to SGC ?

...involved sending 40 PSA graded T206 cards, grades ranging from 2 to 6, to SGC. All of them were uncapsulated -- that is, I did not crack any of them out prior to submission. 30 were returned to me at the same grade or higher -- a couple of 5's became 70/5.5, and even one or two 4's became 60/5. 9 were rejected as not meeting the minimum grade and 1 was rejected as having been trimmed.

My best result is below:

This is not typical, of course. And when I picked up the Cobb, I thought it was more of a 5 than a 4 -- bought the card, not the holder, and SGC ultimately agreed with me.

Default Crossover PSA to SGC ?

Hello Joe,

I would probably cross it over the SGC even if it means a lower, but perhaps more "appropriate", grade if you plan to keep it. Conversely, if you believe it will hit the auction block in the future, keep it as it sits. I'm quite partial to SGC and would cross it over regardless of grade it received since I know that would be staying in my collection for the long haul. SGC could always give you a good idea of what it would grade prior to cracking it and decide from there.

On a parallel note, I purchased the Brouthers below from a seller with some beautiful raw cards believing it would grade around an 80. SGC found a light indentation on the back side and dropped the grade as shown.

And yes, that is a very nice Hanlon card

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski
