Default Rank the Scarcest High Numbers By Year (Topps)

1. 1952

Let’s all just get that one out of the way. Now, in your opinion, between 1953-1973, what are the next five most difficult high numbers to obtain? Assume this conversation has never happened before and you’re teaching a new collector for the first time.

I look at it in more of a segmented way.

the 1967s are stupidly tough to find at decent prices, but the Seaver, Carew, Sox Team, Shannon, etc., just make it a nightmare.

With the 1962s, they are relatively 'easy' to find, but the Rookie Cards turn it into a cardboard hellscape.

And, of course, the 1961 run of HOFer All Stars just ruins your life.

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

1959
1961
1966
1955 Honorable Mention
BTW always thought it was cool that the 59s had that Black number so you could easily pick them out of a stack. Pretty unique identifier for Topps

52s are not the most difficult just the most expensive, 66 and 67s regardless of money some you just can’t find.
