Default What to do with this...

So I found 8 1984 O-Pee-Chee packs while going through this collection we bought.

This pack has a Mattingly on the back. I can't find where one with a Mattingly sold but there's a PSA 7 graded pack with a Mattingly listed for $375 on eBay. My pack appears to be in similar condition.

There's only 52 PSA 10's and they average about $2k a piece.

So what should I do, sell the pack ungraded, get it graded, rip it?

I assume you're looking to cash out. Because if not, then you can always just keep it the way it is.

Selling it ungraded seems like it's probably the least best option. Just because ungraded packs tend to sell at a serious discount.

So it really comes down to whether you're better off gambling with grading the whole pack, or ripping it and hoping that whatever is inside is worth more than the graded pack would have been worth.

For me personally, I think I lack the ability to restrain myself when it comes to packs. I've got to know what's inside! So I would rip it and hopefully there's more great stuff, and it's all in PSA 10 shape.

Do not rip. That card is destroyed by wax (and likely oil).

This, the odds you’ll get a 10 off the bottom of that pack are around 0, unless one has a bribe for the grader or incriminating pictures.

This all day.

It looks by the transparency of the wrapper that that was stored in a garage or attic and experienced heat of such a magnitude the wax in the paper became wet causing saturation.

The card itself is ruined as the cardboard will very likely be stained and discolored. The pack damage will certainly affect grading but at least they will not call it a reseal and a Matty collector will still want it. Taking the card out would be be a waste.

If the gum doesn’t move, good chance that it bled thru 4-5cards also, besides the Mattingly card having wax stains. They used a little different gum than topps, and this is common. Unfortunately the best thing is to leave sealed.
