Default Baseball as Fine Art

As an image collector there are certain cards that elevate past a simple baseball card to what I consider fine art.

It's very subjective but I'll post a few of mine that speak to me, lets see some of your favorite images.

And if you have any of Graig Kreindler's work please post up, that is a great example of Baseball as Fine Art.

Cool thread Phil. Here are two of my favorite cards/images (neither are mine). I also think the T3 set is the most beautiful of all the sets

Agreed, 53 Topps has some great images. Mantle, Mathews, Berra, Paige, to name a few. Was really the last year where fine artists rendered images of baseball players.

This Speaker happens to be an E90-1, but it's an art piece within any of the different sets.

If you want to truly know what constitutes "fine art", get your wife or girlfriend or otherwise get a female to give her opinion. It is widely known that men have exceptionally bad taste

Based solely on aesthetics, T3's are either 2nd or 3rd to me. I think the N142's are slightly better and M110 are right there with them.

Really great looking cards, guys. I have always thought the orange, psychedelic backgrounds are good looking on this series.

ps...that '50 Jackson, above, is a stunning card. wow..

I suppose we will agree to disagree on this point.

Cards are not only artistic but also very visceral . Man they bring back memories and to me this is what art is all about.

Most of my collection are some of my favorite pieces of art as well. I'm glad you brought that up or I may not have noticed. I just naturally gravitated toward these pieces for my collection...

Leonard A. Young, was an accomplished polo player and owner of The Detroit Polo Club. He also created an experimental line of golf clubs and golf balls for noted golfer Walter Hagen. Both Hagen and Young were members of the Detroit Athletic Club, as was Ty Cobb. It was through Hagen that Young was introduced to Cobb and they became friends. While the details have been lost to time, it is the family's understanding that these large-format photos of Cobb were presented by Cobb to Young as a gift of friendship. For decades they hung on the wall in Young's office, each a proud embodiment of his valued friendship with the legendary "Georgia Peach."

Anyone who says 56 Clemente isn’t art is welcome to give me theirs to rid themselves of such an unartistic work.

Didn't/don't some artists produce prints of their original works to distribute/sell to the public that are thus mass produced, at least in a limited sense, as well?

I'm rather surprised that no one has yet shown the the absolute finest piece of art on a baseball card. I only wish I had a better-condition example to show.

I tried a few times but couldn't get a better picture of these cut card artwork pieces. These are 11 X 17 inches each and is 35 X 47 overall. They are made by fellow member John English and look amazing in hand.

I recently had him make the Big Z and need to get a frame for it yet. It is 17 X 22. I plan on getting 2 more strongmen pieces made 11 X 17 each so I can put one on each side.

I hate not having the card (lot of swings and misses on high fast balls), but this mozaic by Caraher helps me cope while I wait for the next pitch.

I started to show my T205 Cobb, but I had a feeling you were going to post yours, and that card is such a beautiful copy.

Who could forget the artistic peak of the W512 set?

The W512 Ty Cobb is a particular gem. It shows the not-heavily documented part of his career when he was also a Batman villain.

That reminded me of the '51 Bowman Richards card. True art. (loving the new scanner, btw)
