Default Siam Champions

Mail day! Crazy to think that a year ago only a handful of these cards existed to be known. And a full set has yet to be accomplished. But I think I am very close. Need some help here as I know some of you are much more knowledgeable and have been around longer. I want to come up with a master set for the 1926 Siam Champions set (if possible). I know of 26 boxers. I believe there would be Dempsey, Braddock, Carpentier and Greb??? Let me know if you have any I don’t have listed. Thanks for looking.
Below is my checklist:
Siam Champions
Billy Wells
Bombadier Wells
Dave Shade
Frank Goddard
Mickey Walker
Mike Honeyman
Paolino
Lew Paloso
Pinky Mitchell
Tom Milligan
Alfred Baldock
Joe Beckett
Jack Humbeck
Harry Wills
Kid Lewis
Battling Siki
Tommy Loughrau
Mike McTique
Gene Tunney
Jack Johnson
Knut Larsen
Ermine Spalla
Tom Gibbons
Rene De Vos
Willie Herman
Benny Leonard

I have none of these, but what an impressive collection. Very cool to see that many at once.

Would be interested to know the history of these and where they originated from. Siam? Are these from Asia?

Love that Harry Wills card. Would love to see the Greb also.

Far as I know, they originated in Thailand. Most of the ones I've seen came out of Thailand directly (I got my first one from there) or via a UK seller. I had a big lot from the UK go missing in the infamous Jamaica, Queens, NY, mail center some years ago.

I corresponded with Martin Murray about this set several years ago and this was what he thought: "I do not think that this is of British origin, since otherwise many more would turn up over here. It is likely, as you surmise, that they were issued in a Far Eastern country and prepared there, for goods destined to be sold to Western visitors."

The several I have are on your list.

Thanks for sharing. I knew you had some and was curious to know your input. I am in negotiations for another lot of these cards. Both originated from the UK. From what I understand it was a British tobacco company but distributed in Vietnam. But that could be wrong as not much is known on these cards.

That's a 16-year-old book. Might want to try the updates; from the most recent one:

"A lot of these cards have been found over the last decade, but mostly baseball. They were issued with scrip to promote Spalding products. The cards can be found with biography backs and blank backed. Handcut cards are known as well since it appears that sheets of the set were issued. A few blank-backed strip cards with a very similar format have surfaced, attributed to Thailand. I believe that they are British made and destined for overseas"

Besides, the cards are similar but clearly not from the same set when placed side by side:

There's also the little issue that a Johnson card has never been found on the uncut sheets of the Spalding cards.

It's just a mistake by whoever sent in the card not knowing what it was and making an incorrect assumption, compounded by the people at SGC taking someone's word rather than doing some research. Doesn't mean it isn't a desirable card, just that the slab and the listing is wrong.

As far as I know, the boxing subjects of the Spalding set are:

Georges Carpentier
Jim Corbett
Jack Delaney
Jack Dempsey
Tiger Flowers
Tommy Gibbons
Rocky Kansas
Louis Kid Kaplan
Fidel La Barba
Pete Latzo
Benny Leonard
Sammy Mandell
Mike Mctigue
Tod Morgan
Johnny Risko
Chas P Rosenberg
Dave Shade
Young Stribling
Gene Tunney
Charlie White

The only matches I see are Leonard and Tunney.

The Tunney does not match:
