Default OT slightly....Pre-War Baseball Silent Movies

Posted By: Jerry

Since I won this Glass slide of a 1914 Silent Movie starring Home Run Baker, I was wondering how many more baseball silent Movies were made and ran across this website lising them. There was more than I Imagined. Wonder how many survive. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting.

In cases the slides are the only record of the movie, with the movie itself long gone.

Silent movie slides with HOFers like Babe Ruth and Home Run Baker are rare.

Default OT slightly....Pre-War Baseball Silent Movies

In the biography of Jack Johnson, Unforgivable Blackness, here's a footnote that describes a film made of Jack Johnson sparring as well as footage of the Chicago American Giants with Rube Foster and Pete Hill, the Detroit Stars with Bruce Petway and the old KC Monarchs featuring Sam Crawford. If it still existed, it would be the only live footage of the early negro league teams. To quote a popular summer movie, "arrrghghghghgghghghghghgh!".

I have one reel from an episode of Play Ball - 1925 version. The website with the link indicates it is presumed lost. Thanks for the info. Film could be worth some bucks.
