Default After nearly 17 years at Beckett

Posted By: Rich Klein

My employment days ended there earlier this week. I had a wonderful time at Beckett but I am ready to move on; hopefully within the hobby or a related field.

The person to contact at Beckett about any Almanac type issues is Brian Fleischer, who is the Baseball Price Guide editor. His email is BFleischer@Beckett.com

My personal email address is Sabrgeek@aol.com and I will continue to read this board and enjoy hearing and reading about the cards of the past.

Regards
Rich

Rich,

Now that you no longer work for Beckett's you can give us the inside scoop on how they establish prices for memorabilia. Also, just in case you didn't know, net54 also has a vintage memorabilia forum.

Peter

I told Scott B over lunch today about your departure. We were talking about the fact you know just about everyone in the hobby and have been such a mainstay as the almanac price guide editor we think you should be snapped up quickly for employment. It's a shame Beckett lets good people go....First Wayne Grove (left for whatever reason), Dr.Beckett....since he sold his company, and now you....I guess they don't understand a company is only as good as the folks in it. I got all of your contact info yesterday and will still look forward to our frequent lunches.

ps...if any grading company folks read this board I would think Rich could be your man for bringing in more submissions.....just a thought...

Rich,
I am sorry to hear that you are no longer with Beckett. Now that you, Joe White and Wayne are gone, that place will really be doomed. You are a real asset no matter where your next road leads. I am sure your next place of business will find you as valuable as Beckett did.

All the best,
Shane

Rich, I'm with Leon---
if a grading company picks you up (and they'd be lucky to get you),
my business would surely come your way.

all the best,
barry

Rich- I am shocked too. We probably go back to the days when you first started.

Do you have something lined up or are you a free agent?

Rich-
My best. Now that you're out from under the new Beckett "empire," go out there and really kick some ass in your new and better endeavor!

Rich- do you want to remain in the hobby and collectibles field, or are you thinking about a new direction?

Rich, sorry to hear your association with Beckett has come to an end. I always thought you were a positive force in the hobby and more of a colleague than a competitor. Maybe you and I ought to offer our services as a package deal to somebody in the hobby/industry who wants to compete with the Standard Catalog and Almanac! Good luck, buddy.

Here's an idea for you guys, collectors are always complaining about how the prices quoted in the Standard Catalog and the Almanac are outdated soon after the release of these books. How about working with a web designer to provide periodical updates of a new hobby publication.

There seems to be a market for it.

Peter

Correct me if I'm wrong. But does Mr. Mint work at Beckett or somehow is affiliated? Seems like anything he does goes bellow up sooner or later... Rich, I'll send you a private e-mail later...

Thanks JC

Hey Rich,

Well from one ex-Beckett employee to another sorry to hear about the departure, with all the knowledge you, Wayne Grove, and I have in the hobby we could start our own Price Guide/business! The three ex-Becketeers! Price Guide Anaylyst! Like the Yankees you will bounce back and like the Cubs I will...never mind..ha ha!

It was tough when I left Beckett because you go from doing something you truly love in a field/hobby you grew up with to now working in a field about as far away from what you did. Being older now and almost the "Yoda" like figure you are.. I've learned to still stay connected in the hobby while doing other things..the hobby always stays with you even if you no longer work in it.

I'd love to get back into the hobby on a full-time basis but it has to be the right fit not just anything. I've learned alot about the sports collectible field, auction houses, and card manufactuers since Beckett.

Like I mentioned before that with your experience and knowledge along with Wayne Grove and myself thats three solid people with a lot to offer.

I thought it was fun working with you at Beckett but you sure were a dirty basketball player!! Ha ha I think my one rib is still cracked!

Good luck and lets do lunch.

Jim Churilla
