I think the lack of bidders in the first few hours of the auction is not surprising. It looks real to me. It's a nice inexpensive Ruth card too....Here's a box I have for comparision. I used to hear that this box was common in full form...from my scant 11 yrs in the hobby (in a little bit of an obsessive way) I don't remember seeing any others though I probably saw one and am forgetting......regards

Marty,

Considering you posted your question less than an hour after the card was listed on eBay, I'm not sure I'd let the lack of bidders influence me on whether the card is original.

BTW, I'm no expert on these by any means, but based on others I've seen that I assume were legit, this one looks OK.

Rob

One of my favorite Ruth cards. Always hard to find them cut nicely. It looks legit, but cut small.

Paul,

Are all of these hand cut?  SGC 92 hand cut?

regardless, that is a beautiful card...

Its also not a Big Show Candy card. Completely different set, difficult to find it many, many ways.

All of the 1921 Schapira Bros Ruth cards are hand cut. Also, Kyle is correct that the Schapira Big Show Candy are different cards. I believe a board member picked up a nice Cobby recently.

Schapira Big Show candy vs just Schapira Bros Candy.  That can be confusing but easy to see the differnce...

Paul, you didn't happen to snag an Autographed Baseball of Babe Ruth as noted on your card, did ya!?

Marty, no ball yet. I still need 249 more cards before I can submit them for a ball.

Paul,

snag this one on ebay and your 1 card closer..

That's seems like an awful lot of cards to get a ball, especially for 1921.  I wonder if anyone ever sent in 250 cards?  That would be a nice lot to discover...   Where was this Schapiria Bros home office located??

A true Schapira Bros. "Big Show Candy" card is different. They are from 1926-28.

These are 1921 Schapira Bros. Candy Babe Ruth cards.

The Ruth Portrait card is very common for the issue. because the kids saved them for the ball. I have seen at least 3 groups of 25-40 cards discovered in last 15 years. These are from kids that never reached the 250 needed for the Ruth signed ball. I have owned a couple of the boxes and the Ruth Portrait is on every single box (like the Orange Border Team cards), so they are 5 times more common that the other Schapira Ruth cards. Only a few years ago these portrait cards sold for $50 ea. because of the few hoards that hit the market.

I have to say that the Schapira's probably are before 1926. I don't mean to upstage anyone, but the cards I have from the set indicate an earlier date. Feel free to do the research and here are my examples:

I concur with Frank on this one, as usual .....As a matter of fact, truth be known, I got that box from you!! I still feel the full boxes are quite scarce...I didn't even think twice about the title but obviously know the differences. Schapira Big Show cards are really tough and a completely different series. I know at least one board member has about 6-8, if I remember correctly..This was a recent upgrade that Jeff L (hi Jeff) and I locked horns on.....He was probably wiser than I...

Leon, great card. I was planning on locking horns with you & Jeff, but I spaced out & forgot. I think I was working that night.

Ive also seen a Ruth and GC Alexander "Big Shows" so there are a few not cataloged too.

There are enough of them now (at least 21 different) to get a more accurate date, what date would you guys put on the "Big Show" cards???

Here is a scan of another Cobb I used to own.

You can tell for this card being offcenter than the same player was printed right below this card.

I also like this card because it shows Cobb playing third base.

Around 1921 or 1922 given Coveleskie's team, the fact that there was a card of Dickie Kerr who only pitched two games for the White Sox in 1925 and his last season before that was 1921. Also, Daubert died in 1924. This is the weakest of my points since there was a card of him, I believe, in the 1926 Sports Co. of America set.
