Unofficial Ebay bidding policy for fellow members
Posted By: vetekbob
I was just curious if there is or has been an unofficial forum policy of politely not bidding on an ebay auction where you recognize that a fellow forum member has bid on? I am new and I wouldnt want to step on anyones toes even if unintentional. There is and has been a few auctions where I noticed a name but didnt bid because I didnt want to tick anyone off. Just wondering what the procedure is so that harmony is kept for all |

Thank you for the reply Hal and congrats to you on your win and great card. If I had to do battle on a card, I agree that I rather do it with someone who loves the card from a collectors standpoint versus a reseller. |

If i see people from the board bidding on a card i really want i let them know usually,if its just a nice card and i dont really need it i sometimes write them and ask if they are serious and try to get a feel of what they bid, that way if they get outbid and they dont plan on bidding again, ill put my bid in.I try not to step on any toes among people ive dealt with off ebay |

Good advice John thanks. I think I will do that with the ebay nics that I can recognize from the board here. I would appreciate it if someone did as you suggested for me whether its ebay or an auction house. Easier to walk across the bridge built with friendship and understanding versus trying to repair one rent with apathy and contempt. Again thanks for the sage advice. |

What John fails to mention is that he is one of the nicest guys in the hobby and always considerate of other's collecting needs. I try to reciprocate with about 7 or 8 other guys who won't bid on something if I am high bidder and they know I really want it. I have missed out on some bargains but friendships are more important plus I have made innumerable off ebay deals with some of my collecting buddies. The only thing that throws a kink in to the whole procedure is a sniping service. There have been several times a friend and I both run each other at the very end because neither knows the other is bidding with a sniper. |

nobody knows I'm going to bid ahead of time. I see board members entering low bids, sometimes, and then never bidding again--and i wonder why. If someone tells me he's bidiing on a card, and I'm bidding on it too, I tell him. |

I have a semi desirable e card on ebay right now....so far 7 different board members have bid on it. I think it's just a game these crazy caramel card collectors play with eachother routinely, or whenever something decent shows up. Either that, or Tbob reall must have something against BCD |

Thanks tbob,he is one of the people i was talking about and many times weve worked out potential deals in case he won an upgrade on a card, where i would buy the lower grade one off him.Doesnt always work out but it keeps us from bidding against each other when one really wants it and the other just thinks its a cool card. |

sometimes i bid low on a card early as to keep it in my "bidding" folder as opposed to "watching", then when i get outbid (i get an email), i can track it better...if it goes too high, i wont bid again...so, i may bid only $200 on a cobb card knowing its going to go for $1k+, just means it reached my max before i waste my "hopes" of winning it....i dont care too much for "snipers" lately. |

Since my needs are small (only looking for a few specific items), I rarely get in anybody's way. Everything is fair game, and if I want it bad enough I would make sure I have enough firepower to be a threat. I resort to (manual) sniping only if I really, really, really, really, really want something. Otherwise, I'd suck it up and not bid. There will always be another time. |
