I just finished going through Scott Gaynor's auctions and I have a question....

Why am I going to the National?

I'm just kidding but jeeze, what an expensive week this is going to be.

Scott must have several assistants; ads 24/7, high ticket and low ticket, new and old.

And people wonder why card shops died and card shows are dying. You can sit in the comfort of your own home and "plug" away at a number of cards from all over the country. Ebay's "who me?" philosophy stinks and their unwillingness to police their auctions (oh excuse me, "our" auctions) is inexcusable but I have to admit ebay makes collectors' hearts happy with the forum for buying vintage cards. The only reason I can see to go to a show anymore is to meet fellow collectors who I was introduced to by this board and by ebay.
And yes, you're right, Gaynor picked a great time to unleash his cards.

I went to his web page and you can enter your email address to get his mailout. When you click your webpage, you are inundated with free restaurant cards and junk mail but you also get an email from Scott telling you that you can't get the mailout until you confirm by clicking another URL. When you click that, it tells you no such page exists. Oh well...

(besides meeeting all youze bums ) can be seen from reading all the threads about ripoff auctions, mail order frauds, overgrades, damaged in the mail, etc. There is something utterly enticing about knowing that the equivalent of ebay in breadth and scope will be there in person for you to paw through, fondle, drool over, offer on, purchase and take home without the waiting, wondering and hoping that ebay entails.

Pete, thanks for noticing, I see you placed some early bids and I always appreciate that.

The website is something that I have been neglecting for awhile. I should have somebody do some work on it, but it has not been high priority. I need to find a college student who is majoring in design and wants to take it on as a school project or something.

My mailing list is hosted by yourmailinglistprovider.com. You may get some pop-ups on thier site, but they don't send spam. There is almost 1000 people on my mailing list and nobody has ever complained that they started receiving spam after joining. We don't send out many messages, we just use the list on the off chance that we have something to announce.

Happy collecting.

Scott

It looks to my somewhat trained eye that a photo enhancing software has been used to clean up the scans of the caramel cards. I've been working on enhancing scans for the 2nd edition of my book and often when you use an autocorrecting function (like on Microsoft's picture software) the white areas of the cards become very white. I am not saying the cards are illegitimate, so don't anyone jump on my back, as I am sure that when you bid on an SGC 40 Chance you will win an SGC 40 Chance, but the scans, esp. of the backs on the caramels and the 1951 Topps All Stars, appear color-corrected.

I just signed up for the mailing list, clicked the link in the email, and got this webpage ---- Thanks for joining the Scgaynor Auctions Mailing List.

So, I guess it worked ok for me.

Adam, we just scan the cards at 100 - 300dpi, depending on the size of the item. We don't do any photo enhanceing. The way that they appear on ebay is the same way they roll off of the scanner. What you see is what you get.
