I got a few more cards I wanted (hope they all make it here):

1925-29 Exhibit PC Back Hack Wilson (how did he hit so hard with such little feet?)--Got this one and it is NICE...

(3) T218's for my higher grade set. Got all three; look good.

1923/24 Exhibit Simmons--got it, like it

T206 Kling portrait (overpaid, but he finishes my Cubs infield portaits: Around the horn from Kling to Steinfeldt to Tinker to Evers to Chance)

C46 Kelley (my first Canadian baseball card).

Low grade Yeungling's McGraw--but for $10 I'm not gonna bitch...much. got it, ok for the grade/price

T202 Speaker/Wood for $99--not the greatest shape, but WTF...

How'd everyone else do??<br />

i got 12 more W600's from the lipset auction, that the buyer returned and lew called me as the underbidder with the chance to buy them. didn't even have to think about it as i had beat myself up for weeks for not winning the.

SWEET!

now if the rest of you would just cooperate the same.

e90-1 Collins, I bought it cause my eyes tell me that though the card looks like all the other "E"cards poses...his facial expression seemed to be a little more toned down, so I said to myself that sure... its a smidgeon different.

3 Kling portraits -I do collect portraits ,obviously.
Another Lajoie port- thats 7...dont ask me why.

Another Hartzel- Mello mint (4)

My Mastro stuff came today

Of all, I like the Collins card that's coming.

See Ya's,
Dan

I scored the highest graded E98 Vaughn (scarce)known, a nice E98 Davis which was helped by a horrific scan which probably scared buyers away and concealed the fact it was creaseless and clean, 2 dozen T210 Old Mills in nice, creaseless condition from ebay but mostly off-line, an M116 Sporting Life Cobb in exmt which may or may not grade but is a beauty, a PX7 Domino Disc Cicotte in PSA 7 and several Doors 45s from the 60's with picture sleeves from other countries which are not only rare but feature artwork never used in this country.
My regrets include not bidding higher on the blue M116 Cobb (I was at a basketball game and didn't set a high enough snipe) and letting Brockelman sneak in and score a really nice Series 8 T210 Old Mill at the last second on a card I had already counted as a winner.
Still, a nice week and there's still 2 days to go...

No cards, but I did pick up a store model Louisville Slugger Babe Ruth bat at a live auction for $27.50. I also picked up a Hanna batrite Slaughter style bat at the same auction for a buck.

Two weeks back I picked up a framed panoramic photo of the 1929 A's and a bunch of 1940-50's Lincoln A's and Lincoln Chiefs programs and photos.

I did manage to pick up a few for my e96 and e93 sets. The big one - since I was able get the lost money back for the OJ Anson I was suppose to get - was a e95 Honus Wagner. Those sets need all the help that they can get so picking up a big one for me is a huge pat on my back. Good job Bryan, yeah me!

Leon,

I bid that Mastro lot up just for this card. I think it is the coolest looking card.

Scott,

I did see the thread and referred back to it when I finally noticed the card on ebay. Sadly for Leon, I found the card with less than 30 minutes to go in the auction.

Happy holidays guys!

Greg

Edit:

Wes,

I did not win the one in Mastro. That one was a little nicer than the one I have.

My week doesn't compare at all to John/z28jd's week, but I added 10 more low grade T206's to my craptacular collection. (The highlight was a Sam Crawford.)

I also received a "raw" Al Burch (batting) card that will be making its way to Parsippany as soon as I get a few more cards!

Not much stuff...2 T-205s, Bresnahan (closed) to upgrade HLC back, and a Cycle back Fletcher which I used as an upgrade. a Rough t-212-3 Dillon, and another e-90-1 Grant. Limited budget kills my collecting dreams.

I purchased 9,000 vintage postcards; most from turn of the century, covering all states, topics, themes, etc. If there are any baseball or other sports ones, you guys and gals will be the first to know.

Got a call from a guy who said his bookie owed him a bunch of money (that in itself is a new one). The bookie paid him half the money and then told him he'd have to take a box of old cards he got 20 years ago from a guy he knew in Mississippi. Ye olde shoebox. Well to make a long story short, the caller said he then had them for 10 years himself and heard I collected tobacco cards and thought I might be interested in them. Supposedly there are over 300 cards including 90 T213s, 100 T206s, 50 T205s, and the rest caramel and other assorted cards. He thought the caramel cards were E92s but he mentioned Mordecai Brown who doesn't appear in the E92 set. I am praying they are E93s, E96s and E98s, but you never know.
Things like this never happen to anyone but Leon so I was happy at a shot at them. May end up being nothing, but you never know

I haven't won much lately, but I think I will be very happy with this one (I collect vintage track and field cards/memorabilia and this is the first nice pair of pre-war Spalding spikes I've found).

I've recently been in correspondence with the grandson of former Major League pitcher Grover Lowdermilk. He was kind enough to mail me a couple of photos and an autograph of his grandfather which arrived in the mail yesterday. (Sorry for not posting these items, haven't had the chance to scan them yet.) I'm sure many of you recognize the Lowdermilk name from his T207 card.

Just got my 1911 Philadelphia Athletics cast-iron white elephant from Leland's today. Superb!

I've seen this piece offered once in the last four years when a dealer at the 2003 National in AC tried selling the Halper example for $3,500. I think I got a great deal and am extremely happy with its condition.

I also just got a complete run of "Gridiron Greats" (supposedly vintage football collectings answer to VCBC) to provide some reading material over the holiday break.

I just won an N172 Beckley with the St Louis Whites on ebay. Meets my (not generally accepted) definition of a rookie card, and I've always wanted it. Much nicer than the Pittsburgh variation I used to own -- at least in my opinion.

Damn Paul, wheres that Pittsburgh variation at now,i could use one of those for my Pirates set

I think this thread just shows that as a group we spend alot of money on cards and such, and that the market is very healthy for these items

PS Eventho i wasnt supposed to spend anymore money i won a t213 with a name up top that was different from the name on the bottom,Chief Wilson with Germany Schaeffer up top,i thought that was pretty cool.Probably only t213 ill ever own

John, I traded the Pittsburgh Beckley to Ryan Christoff who you can reach through his website, www.cubanbaseballcards.com. I'm not sure if he still has it, but you can always ask. Good luck.
