I see absolutely no benefit to Beckett if they were to buy Global.

none.

I think grabbing James Spence was a great move by Beckett.

and Richard D....
I am with you -
for some reason gizmo insists on insulting people as part of his way of delivering a message.

edit to say:
since this has hit post 100 -
we are officially allowed to turn it into NYC Dinner Thread VII

edit again - some grammar.

Why buy Global? What can Beckett gain from that? Beckett is already doing well and increasing in popularity. I like your idea David as it would explain a few things but I don't see a reason to "buy" Global. Then again, I am borderline business illiterate!

Why does any business buy another business? To expand, and to remove some of the competition. GAI could not compete with PSA's and SGC's market share, and Beckett was far behind the three. Maybe that will now change.

It is just a thought that occurred to me on the other thread concerning JSA. GAI has large slab technology, Beckett is associating with JSA because he likes their newfound ability to produce large slabs so it got me thinking. No idea if it's true or not but companies buy other companies all the time for their technology or to eliminate a competitor. Microsoft is a perfect example of this startegy.

It seems bizarre that GAI could not handle a geographic move without going dark to the outside world. Crazy business plan if that's true. We'll see soon I guess.

in this particular situation -
it would make sense for one company (Beckett) to buy a competitor that has a better industry reputation.

I don't believe GAI has a better reputation than Beckett.
I don't believe the acquisition would improve Beckett's reputation or their business.
I don't believe Beckett needs any help with slab-technology (they have that covered).

I am not discounting the possibility.

I just don't see it as a good business move.

But what the heck do I know!?!

That makes sense Barry and dave, I just figured GAI was sinking and Beckett rising so why the need to buy at that point? Let the ship sink and you lose a competitor and keep your coinage. As far as the technology, aside from pack grading, I don't see what GAI could have that Beckett doesn't. Dan.

But GAI has a vintage card customer base, where Beckett is more post-war. So it could be a good match.

Then again, this is all speculation as I haven't heard anything about a merger.

I wouldn't call that a 'press release'. Looks like the rep was just responding to a question.

I don't see what GAI could have that Beckett doesn't. Dan.

Beckett does not have a west coast grading facility.
Not saying that I think this will happen or not.

If Beckett was buying out or merging with GAI, we would be getting a press release of some sort.

Also, Beckett's already has the bucks to start their own West Coast office.

Dan,

The answer to the second part of your question is OBVIOUSLY NOT. I would be willing to chip in the first $150 towards a typing class and a basic English class.

Hey Rick-

Any chance on getting your Fake Fro Joys slabbed? Yea that's right the colored ones you used to sell on ebay. I would imagine you being Mr. Midwest GAI vendor it could help with the encapsulation of those colored Fro Joys! Now this should get more interesting!

Guys depsite Rick's inability for people skills he is actually a nice guy over the phone. Just ribbing you a little Rick. I have to admit though all Caps and bad grammer makes it less enjoyable to read. Next time you see Bob McLean say hello for me! I warned him of your vintage Ice Cream cards though. Enjoy the forum. Have any questions or comments feel free to email me! ;)

Although I don't care to enter into the bickering, I do find it impressive that almost everyone on this board has accomplished some pretty incredible stuff in their lives - I'm always amazed at the "who you are and what do you do threads".

Since the question was posed, I guess I'll start by stating what I've done...

I'm 25 years old, I'm an attorney at the NYC office of a top 10 international law firm (according to American Lawyer), I've written 2 books, been published twice in the legal field and been published multiple times in the sports memorabilia field.

Rick, you must be thick headed. Clueless. You insult people. You're rude. Your the only one on the internet who thinks shouting is acceptable. Educate me. What do you know that we don't know about typing in all caps?

No one is complaining about badly shipped product unless it's your company that's doing it.

"AND FOR THE IDIOT,THAT SAID WE WERE RIPPING ON PEOPLE,WELL HOSS,I'M LIKE THE STATE OF MISSORRI--YOU GOTTA SHOW ME!" What???

"The Vault" is a room where they grade things. VOMIT if you don't understand that.

"I AM AN EX-DISTRICT SALES MANAGER FOR A LARGE CORP,AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST!" I thought you ran a baseball card company? I seen your ad. I'm sure Steve Rochi could care less about your business when you talk negative about his company on an online forum. I'll let him know.

Steve Rochi is a great man. He has taken care of my Elementary School for years. He has a kind heart and doesn't deserve the disrespect from you or your company.

As I said days ago, they were moving. I believe I was the first to mention this. As you now see, I was right. I spoke up because I still believe in GAI, and have friends that works there. It's not a easy task to move millions of dollars of merchandise. They will be back . Everyone has to just give them time to do it right.
