Default Broadleaf 460 vs Wagner T-206s (relative scarcity)

Posted By: E. Angyal

Hey all,

Im contemplating picking up a Broadleaf 460 back for my T-206 back collection and it got me to wondering if there are more BL 460 cards in existence or if there are more Honus Wagners. I know estimates are only about 75 to 100 Wagners in existance. Any guess as to how many BL 460's out there? I only know of the following based on recent cards for sale - and i'm sure there are a lot of others:

Cobb - Red
Dougherty - arm in air
O'Leary - hands on knees
Joss - Pitching
Willis - Pitching

Can anyone chime in on other confirmed BL 460s? Art M, Scott B, Dan M? This fits with some of the other recent threads on available front/back combo's. Thanks in advance,

Eric

I should have done a search of old posts. I see there is already quite a bit of info to answer my question.

I've got a Broadleaf 460 of Jake Stahl. I've seen
about 12 or so. Theres more than that out there,
hard to say what total number in existance there is.

You say you saw those cards for sale recently. Where was that? I'd love to have been able to bid on a Cobb Broadleaf 460.

Cobb 460 = SVA

You probably won't see this one come up at auction anytime soon-as the collector who won it collects Cobb with as many different backs as possible!

Jimmy:

To answer your question specifically, the Cobb BL 460 sold at last year's Clean Sweep Auction for around 5K with juice, I was the winner. The card is very beat up and currently resides in a SGC Authentic holder. If I'm not mistaken, it was previously owned by at least 2-3 other board members and may have resided in a PSA 1 holder at some point. Best I can tell is that it is the only BL 460 Cobb. If you want a little more history on this card specifically, do a quick search on this forum for: cobb broadleaf

Hi Eric,
Here are the confirmed poses I have with Broadleaf 460 backs:
Mordecai Brown Chicago (HOF)
Al Burch (fielding)
Ty Cobb Red Portrait (HOF)
Ty Cobb Bat off Shoulder (HOF)
Harry Davis (Philadelphia, Davis on front)
Patsy Dougherty (arm in air)
Tom Downey (batting)
Johnny Evers Chicago (yellow sky) (HOF)
Clark Griffith Batting (HOF)
Walter Johnson Glove at Chest (R) (HOF)
Addie Joss Hands at Chest (HOF)
Red Kleinow Boston
Ed Konetchy (glove near ground)
Christy Mathewson Dark Cap (HOF)
Harry McIntyre (Brooklyn & Chicago)
George Mullin (with bat)
Danny Murphy (batting)
Charley O'Leary (hands on knees)
Ed Reulbach (no glove showing)
Nap Rucker (throwing)
Germany Schaefer (Washington)
Cy Seymour (throwing)
Fred Snodgrass (catching)
Jake Stahl (glove shows)
Gabby Street (catching)
Jeff Sweeney (New York)
Vic Willis Throwing
I may have missed a few, but not too many. I would say there are more 460's than Wagners, as I have seen more than one of every card on the list including both Cobb's, including 4 of the Red Background. I have also seen more O'leary's than anyone else.
Be well Brian

Your right Toby,
The Young and the Matty that sold in Mastro a few auctions ago were both found at the same time. I have Beautiful scans of both, but they are too big to post. Be well Brian

Cool it worked......

It is interesting to read that four or five Cobb red portraits are known with the BL 460 back.
