Default We collectors are a funny lot...

We collectors are an odd lot...some things are acceptable...or even desirable to some collectors...whereas the same things may be unacceptable to others...that's what makes us all unique and interesting.

Lets give some examples.

I'll start...inspired by Pete Z in the BST..."period writing" on a card...appears to be more desirable than..."non period" writing?

The notion that upon finding out that the T206 Wagner PSA 8 was trimmed actually made it go up in value. (Although that's the opinion of one hobby executive who wished to remain anonymous - probably PSA management).

Missing colors, handcut, misprint, upside down. Some get it, most think we're nuts.

Some people don't mind having multiples of the same card, others think it is stupid and/or hoarding

another interesting question re: collector 'tastes'.
Some folks will not have a trimmed card. I picked up a few candy cards from the Nagy collection quite some time ago which had been deemed trimmed by TPG and was very pleased to
frame them alongside my Lionel Carter gems.

all the best,
barry

I like the errors. Wrong backs, blank front/backs, missing color, large print spots, miscuts, and my all time favorite offset printing on the card front. They are my favorites and a lot of people call them junk.

My wife thinks I'm nuts because I collect baseball cards. But, I don't follow any sports.

Some people think it's OK to soak a card or lightly clean it, while others think nothing about a card should ever be changed from the state it was found in.

PSA vs SGC

Grading vs Raw

T206s collectors vs Non-T206 collectors

Default I have a gut feeling

Some people have the stomach to collect W9316 cards, while many other collectors think W9316 cards look like the contents of a stomach.

I like the missing ink / ghosts / errors/ "freeks" if you will - But I also love an excellent looking card.

I hate a card that has a mark or paper loos on the front - but if its on the back im ok with it, lol

Default Odd Bunch

Paying a premium for miscut cards that are so severely miscut they show significant portions of 2 players.

These are some miscut 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken Black Box cards. These are "hand cut" from a sheet. In 89 Fleer made complete sheets of just the Black Box card.

So were those ripken cards purposely cut that way?

Yes, I cut up a sheet on a friends photo mat cutter. I made some 2, 4 & 9 cards panels and some of these miscut cards. Plus kept all the outside cards with the color bar/white strip attached.
