Default Leon locked the thread before I could post but my frustration is there

Posted By: J Levine

Leon, delete it or lock it, but I literally missed posting this on the inane GAI thread by 30 seconds.

It drives me insane when the board ends up like this...I almost never post in these threads but here goes...

Things I have done in my life in no particular order and in no way do these things define me, how I feel about myself, or how others feel about me.

Learned to swim, been to every state west of the mississippi and 13 east of the mississippi, graduated college with a degree in Liberal Studies, an AA in Child Development, and a teaching degree, did a three hour stint on a local radio station for a night (KROQ), saw the Northern Lights in Alaska, taught 1st grade for the last 10 years, gone to the Golden Globes, Academy Awards, Grammys, and Emmys, appeared on the local t.v. news, sailed a boat, created several pieces of mosaic art and furniture, bought a condo, learned how to cuss in German, went to Cooperstown for a Baseball Hall of Fame induction, wrote several articles about baseball and baseball cards, worked on multicultural education research, planted a garden, buried a friend, traveled to England and Scotland, maintained a friendship with someone I only met twice in person in the last seven years, went to get a tatoo but chickened out, took a painting class only to find out that my artistic talents lie in the mosaic, not the paint, learned how to cook, tried out for Jeopardy (twice), bought and read every book by Neil Gaiman, climbed down the Grand Caynon, went into Carlsbad Caverns, and went to the World Series, biked down a volcano, visited a rain forest, owned a snake, drove a race car, crashed a van, won a poker tournament in Vegas, met two presidents, found a buried treasure, buried a time capsule, mentored a friend, helped a stranger, built a computer, played baseball on the field at Dodger Stadium, and spent an hours on Net54.

Have I done more, of course...do I care what you have done or accomplished, not really.

Please do remember that I judge you not on what you have done, how much money you make/made, or what clothes you wear but how you treat me, treat my friends, and how you act towards strangers. Is that how you all want to be judged or should we just keep harping on who has the most money or better collection or best job or better grammar?

Joshua

Not to hi-jack Josh's thread, but that third to last post over on the GAI thread was very telling and should eliminate all speculation....not that I liked hearing it.

I woke up this morning to see the GAI thread locked (thankfully), but just want to say that it does the board a terrible disservice to have such pointless shouting matches.

We've already discussed that there are hundreds of people reading the forum every day, and many of them will not come back after seeing a train wreck of that magnitude.

And Leon, if you are hesitant to ban people, maybe you would at least consider outlawing capital letters.

Alan- The thread is there and locked, and you can read it, as I don't delete them(anymore)unless it's a very extraordinary circumstance or an operational issue.....

Barry- I doubt I will outlaw all caps but it's an idea....I think the board has a way of taking care of itself. regards

The outlawing caps remark was of course tongue in cheek.

the all caps thing. How do people even survive into adulthood (and presumably hold a job, etc.) while being incapable of realizing that writing in ALL CAPS all the time makes them look like morons, and certainly renders them less likely to convince anyone of anything?

Joshua,

By the way, I agree with what you wrote 99.99%! (That grammar crack, right at the end...you went too far. Especially for a 1st grade teacher. Let the kids know, they'll be judged on things like grammar their entire lives. It may not reflect who they really are, but people will use it, just the same.)

Nice job.

Joshua- I also enjoyed reading your post and got a little too caught up in the CAPITAL KID to respond to it.

very ominous.

The following information was found in public records searches and is not in any way secret or confidential:

I ran a business search with the California Secretary of State's office. There is no listing for a "Global Authentication, Inc." but there is a listing as follows:

Corporation
GLOBAL AUTHENTICATION ACQUIRING CO., INC.
Number: C2874325 Date Filed: 5/10/2006 Status: active
Jurisdiction: California
Address
232 AVENIDA FABRICANTE STE 100 BOX 14
SAN CLEMENTE, CA 92672
Agent for Service of Process
HARTFORD O BROWN
777 S FIGUEROA ST STE 470
LOS ANGELES, CA 90017

The address in San Clemente is the same address as the published address for GAI, so it appears that this corporation is "GAI". If anyone here has materials at GAI and is worried about getting them back, you might try to contact the above-referenced registered agent. Mr. Brown is an attorney with a firm called "Klinedinst" in Los Angeles. Phone Number (213) 607-2115.

Hope this helps.

Jim thanks - I didn't even bother reading the last few posts after that thread got locked since I figured they were the reason Leon locked the thread. I'm reposting that text here in case anyone else made the same mistake and missed the critical information. BTW, anyone know what forum Tom got this from?

Collectors, dealers await word on Global Authentication

Customers of grading and authentication provider Global Authentication have been left to wonder about the companys status the past few days. Customers who called the California-based company to check on the status of their merchandise have received messages stating that the number has been disconnected. Globals website has also been down.

Adding to the anxiety is the fact that at least one customer who stopped by the companys headquarters this week found an eviction notice posted on the front door. Bob Rund said he dropped off an estimated $8,000 worth of packs last week for grading. When I called on Monday to check on the status, the phones were disconnected. I went to check the website and that didnt work either, Rund said. When I drove to the office the next day, the doors were locked, the office was empty and the eviction notice was posted. There was no note about a new location or anything.

In a story posted on Beckett.com Tuesday, Steve Sipe, Global VP of business development, was quoted as saying the company was still in business, but had closed temporarily due to relocation and was moving to another office area in the same business complex.

However, Global had not contacted its customers to inform them that it would be moving or provide a new address. It has not issued any other public statements explaining their situation or provided contact information for their new location. Global president Steve Rocchi did not return a call to Trade Fax.

Debbie Ochoa, manager of the office that oversees business licensing for the city of San Clemente, said she went to the Global offices Tuesday because she had received two complaints from customers worried about the status of their submissions. Ochoa said she saw no evidence that Global was occupying another office in the complex.

Steve Coontz, an attorney representing the owner of the building where Global was leasing space, confirmed an eviction notice was served but would not comment on any other aspect of the case.

At any rate...unless I missed something today, this should confirm to me anyway that GAI is in trouble. I think it was their statement put on the Beckett site that said they would be back up and website running in 24 hours...its still down 48 hours later...I wonder just how many dollars in cards they have in that "back room" that are being held without anybody returning calls or making any mention of what has happened?

If it looks like a fish and smells like a fish, it's a fish. Being evicted means you don't have money to pay the rent. They're cooked. No Beckett, no move, just cooked.

If things follow normal course and GAI files for bankruptcy it could take months for the trustee to sort out what belongs to which customers.

I would also think that while cards in GAI's possession should legally be returned to their owners, any slabbing fees paid to GAI would be divided amongst the creditors.

Odds are that anyone who paid GAI for services not rendered and whose cards are there will fall into two classifications of creditor: general unsecured for the slabbing fees and some other class for the cards. It will take a while to sort out. If it was my stuff, I'd make a police report now for the missing items claiming embezzlement by GAI since it seems (see the other thread) that GAI had employees selling stuff out the back door and would likely sue both GAI and its principals for conversion of my items. But that's just litigious me.

Can GAI actually be done if they have not issued "last graded" of each card? Until this happens GAI will always be alive and well.

Does it really make a difference if they survive or not? I do not believe they actually have done anything in their time in business to make me miss them if they are gone.

I wouldn't be interested in representing GAI, I was more interested in Jon and Dan's idea of Leon and Net54 starting a grading company.

Now that has potential.

It appears that GAI didn't have a business license, that reflects badly on the hobby.
