Funny, I tried to look up where the nickname came from...only found that it's the 10th most used FEMALE name currently in Sweden. I did see he used the name Eddie Thomas early in his pro career to hide himself from losing his college eligibility. But nothing on Ebba...never heard that nickname before...

Not exactly an explanation, but from the book "Baseball Players Of the 1950's":

Thanks David, that was more than I could find googling...

Scott...considering he passed away in 1982, Ebba's auto couldn't have been too easy to find?

Here is my Ebba...

He is out there, but doesn't come up too frequently. There's three on eBay right now, which is the most I can recall seeing at once. Usually, one would pop up every couple of months.

Just an FYI...I've been working on the 53s as we go here, with the goal to never have an open day. I believe I have added 80-100 cards since this thread has started. Was close with PeeWee Reese and Billy Martin, but both came just in time! Awesome motivation. Tackling some of the higher numbers and SP's, and need Paige and Mays...but the deadlines are set. I am now good until card #191, Ralph Kiner...so I have some time! Currently down to 17 cards...have had a good couple of weeks with those pesky high numbers...also, upgraded my Bob Feller with more upgrades coming...

Anyway, here is my Mr. Minner...

Default Black vs White

I dunno - can't see much difference in the two variations of the typeface. Does anyone have an example of the black ink bleeding that would obviate its further use in the printing process?

Posting them one at a time has made me realize how many of mine are candidates for an upgrade.

I wouldn't think you would have many options for upgrading autographed cards from this set.

It depends on how selective I want to be, and on the player. For someone who is common, finding a clean card with a clear signature isn't a big deal. But finding a signature in pen vs. Sharpie, or even better, one that was signed around the time the card came out, is a lot more difficult. Then with a lot of the older signed cards, the original owners would trim off the borders, or put tape over the signature. I have some cards that look like they were pulled from a pack, signed, and then put in storage for 65 years, and others that were trimmed, hole-punched, or signed in red flair pen, which over time fades to pink.

I know in the late 80's I wouldn't want an autograph on a nice card, we would have purposely picked a beater. Not sure if that was universal, but it was in my crowd. Now of course the rules of graded have changed, but I totally understand seeing older auto's on rough cards. I'm still in awe of each of your posts...
