I stopped in a local antique shop today. There on a table was a pile of LIFE magazines and to my surprise, I spotted the 1962 Cleopatra issue. Having run into this issue before, I made my obligatory search for the Maris and Mantle cards. Low and behold, there they were. The magazine is intact and in decent good condition. The cards are clean and tucked neatly in their place for the last 46 years. My intention is to sell or trade this find. I would like to hear what everyone thinks. Do I keep everything in the magazine? Pull the cards out of the mag? Tear them on the perforation? Have them graded?
Thanks, John

I keep mine in magazine that they came in.

I like it like this and I believe this is the best for the value.

I'd keep the cards intact in the magazine and sell it like that, and maybe try for a small premium tacked on to what the cards would sell for. That is, of course, if you haven't already been deluged with offers by 300 readers of this board.

Heritage sold one for just under $100 recently. If I remember right, I think I saw another sell somewhere for around $200.

As a Yankee fan, both of those numbers seemed a little low, but it depends upon condition.

Ive owned a few over the years. Since they are just slipped between the pages, I take the 2 cards out and put them in a large toploader and then the magazine into a large soft sleeve.

I used to go to antique stores in the 1980s and always looked for that issue (April 13 I believe), it was always fun to find one intact

I bought one at my local card shop several years back that had two of the Maris and Mantle cards in it. Has anyone found one like this?

Clint

Two sheets intact sounds like an error on the assembly line - cool item. I've seen 1960's Life magazines with two covers stapled on - I think this occurs with early comic books from time to time as well. I'd leave it intact - collectors enjoy anomalies.

I have had a couple of this issue that has had two of each card inside. On ebay a year or so ago there was an issue that had three of each card inside. Back in the day when I use to do shows I had a person bring me six perfect issues that were pulled off of the Newsstand. I purchased them and asked if they had anymore. To my surprise they said they had at least 12 more at home. I was able to purchase those as well although not all of them were Newsstand issues. I think at one time I had over 30 of this issue. It helped that my parents were antique dealers and each weekend I found myself at either a flea market or auction sale.
