I just picked up on eBay a really rare card. Mitchell Blake.

1930 Mitchel Blake Baguer Chocolates front.jpg

1930 Mitchel Blake Baguer Chocolates back Rare.jpg

The seller was selling a bunch of cards he soaked including the Ruth which sold today. He mentioned in the description he has this card for sale, but I could not find it. I consulted Roland’s book and learned some more about it. He ended up relisting it for me and I bought it. It is pretty ugly, but I think not many are known, so I grabbed it. Apparently, this was a short print since the complete set could be sent in for prizes, so this card was rare to avoid giving prizes. It is from the 1930 Baguer Chocolates.

It is being sent to the eBay authentication program, so that should be interesting since PSA has never graded one and SGC 1.

Update: Came back authenticated and packed nicely, arrived earlier than expected.

Default Silvio Garcia

Here's a cool Silvio Garcia card from the 46 Reyes set. Had a very long and interesting career. Two way player like Dihigo. Branch Rickey was interested in signing him before Robinson broke the color line.

Jamie, that Mitchell Blake card you're showing is rare, although it's not in a very good condition, I congratulate you on getting this card, now I'm showing a group of Baguer cards pasted in his album, including the Babe Ruth card.

Great thread. I did not read all 660+ messages, but what I did had fantastic info for those interested in Cuban memorabilia.
I have two questions. Did your books get more printings since the thread began. Second does Lou Gehrig have any Cuban issues?
Thank you.

December 29, 1878, today marks the 144th anniversary of the start of the 1st Baseball Championship in Cuba, a game between Habana and Almendares won by Habana 21 runs x 20, played on the El Siboney grounds on Tulipán street in Cerro de La Havana. In the year 1940 it was decided that this day would be "Base Ball Day" and on December 29 the exaltations to the Hall of Fame of Cuba were made, I show a photo from an old newspaper announcing this historic game.

Robert Bobby Fischer, today marks the 15th anniversary of his death, is considered one of the greatest chess geniuses of all time, world champion in 1972, in his time as a player he demonstrated great superiority against his opponents. I met Fischer during the Chess Olympiad in Havana in 1966, and on several occasions I was lucky enough to share a few words with him, and he signed some autographs for me, I saw him every day and sometimes after finishing his game I was at his side. side in the game analysis room, it was all because I worked in the Technical Commission as an Olympiad prosecutor, I show something in photos of Bobby.

José Marti and Baseball, today January 28 on the anniversary of the birth of Our Apostle, I will write something about his relationship with this sport, several writings are known that appear in several volumes of his Complete Works, Marti lived permanently for many years in United States, mainly in the 1880s, I show you a photo of the Cabañas 1909 Post Cards collection, and next to Agustín "Tinti" Molina, in 1889, in Key West, Marti was present at a ball game between the team Cuba and another from the United States, and Tinti hit a home run and the Cuban team won. At the end of the game, the apostle asked to go see the Macanazo player (that's what Marti called the home run) and congratulated him on the victory of the Cuban team because to his performance at bat. In the other photo you will see a page from the book La Esfera y el Tiempo, its author Dr. Félix Julio Alfonso, on several pages he writes about the different articles by Marti that appear in his Complete Works, in the other photo we see Francisco Poyo, member of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame, son of José Dolores Poyo, founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party together with José Marti, and the other photo is from an interview that appeared in the press on the occasion of his exaltation to the Hall of Fame, Francisco Poyo was part of the Cuban team in the 1889 game that Marti witnessed

Default Cigarros PUNCH 1910 Almendares

"PUNCH" 1910 Cigars. In the 40 years that I have been a researcher and collector, this is the rarest card I know of from that collection, in Volume 2 of my Specialized Catalogs I give details about it.

In the individual cards of the "Punch Cigars" collection they have a frame on all four sides, in the card that I showed with all the photos of the Almendares players, note that they are the original photos of the players without the frame, and the frame black covers all four sides of the set, now I show a card of José Mendez.

Default Help with possible identifications...

I recently acquired this image and am hoping for some help with possible identifications. The photo is dated 1927 on the reverse.

Rolando and other Negro/Cuban aficionados...

What are the chances (slim I believe) that the photo posted below contains any of the following:

Luis Tiant standing 2nd from right
Ramon Bragana standing 3rd from right
Rodolfo Fernandez standing 4th from left

Thanks for any help in advance
Travis

Default Ty Cobb Punch 1910

I show some Punch Cigars cards that I scanned years ago in my house, Ty Cobb and others from the teams that played in 1910 in Havana, the Almendares ones were glued one next to the other on the album sheet of the same player.

Not a Cuban card but semi-related item that I just picked up. Signed enveloped of President Calvin Coolidge visiting Havana in 1928.

Kenny Cole, The card that you show of Viola was mine, note that I show two that were glued next to each other and I scanned them many years ago, then I separated them and sold the one that you show, the one on the right, the other in these I have it in my collection at times.

Hi Roland,

I know that my card of Viola was one of the two you showed. I'm just happy to have one. Wish I several others, but they're pretty hard to come by.
