Default My last post-war set is complete - UPDATE.now it's Free Willie

I have been working for decades to acquire every reasonable Topps base set from 1951 to 2023. My task is finally complete as far as I'm concerned. After years of pacing, my 1952 Topps set has added a PSA 1 Willie Mays. Yes It will be cracked shortly since I'm a binder guy
(disclaimer - no 1952 high numbers for me. I said "reasonable").

I guess it's time to start knocking out some pre-war.

Congrats, Mark. Quite the accomplishment. That Mays looks gorgeous and will look even better in the binder with the others.

That's great, almost every base card from 1951. Not many have done that. Congratulations.

Congratulations, that covers over 70 years of baseball history. Do you have all the sets in binders? If so, we do need a photo.

Probably going to need a wide angle lens/picture even with the binders closed!

Awesome! I am primarily a prewar guy, but I am still working on my 1952-1975 sets. 1954, '59, '64, 73 complete and close on several others. My fondest memories about card collecting are buying those Topps packs of five for a nickle at the dime store or grocery in the 60s. I am ashamed to say many a time I thumbed through the cards and found nothing I needed. Just popped that delicious pink slab in my mouth and pitched the cards on the sidewalk. I'll bet I threw 20 Mantles and Aarons in the street. Could not get Mays to save my ass. Then back to my dad who was at work. I could usually squeeze a nickle or dime out of him, just to get rid of me! Sorry old man just wandered off to the good ole days.

Huge congratulations from someone trying to do the same. I'm now under 900 cards needed most from 1952, 1955-57 and 1960-62. The journey is so much fun.

Like you, I'll probably save big cards for last: 52 Mays, 53 Mays and 55 Clemente.

Of course, working at the same time on T206 and OJs slows me down some! LOL

Best of luck on your next adventure!

A binder for each year. The Bowman sets reside inside their Topps counterparts. The 48-49 sets are with other 40's cards in the top left. The 51 Red Back folder holds complete 1950 and 51 Bowman sets with the 51 Topps set. The 1952-1955 folders hold both Topps and Bowman sets.
Each binder has an extra authentic Hall of Fame (or worty,) player on the spine. A later produced Topps tribute card is used if the card would be too big to fit.

I commend you on allowing Willie to breathe again and join his rightful place among his card mates! Very nice accomplishment.

An achievement as impressive as this deserves a tip of the old flip. And by the way, nice deep color on the card.
