Default Brockelman Auction contest w/vintage card prizes - Ends Saturday March 2nd

The Brockelman Auction contest is back again for the auction that ends this Saturday, and you have the chance to score some vintage cards as seen in the scans at the bottom of this post.

The auction: http://www.brockelmanauctions.com/catalog.aspx

This time the contest will focus on the titles of the auction lots, and your wise usage of the Search function located on the left side of the Brockelman Auction website. There are 5 searches involved, all involving the TITLE of the lots, and for 4 of those searches I have listed the lot number results for those TITLE searches. The fifth search I have not listed lot numbers, as there are 78 results. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to successfully identify one lot from each of the first 4 searches that you think I consigned, and the fifth one will require you to identify a total of 10 lots that you think I consigned, as is detailed in the parenthesis below by its listing.

Those TITLE searches:

1) "ASSORTED" - 123, 384, 427, 441, 446, 447, 450 (select 1)

2) "PAIR" - 37, 59, 108, 249, 356 (select 1)

3) "TRIO" - 46, 95, 114, 348, 407, 500, 550 (select 1)

4) "CARAMEL" - 231, 232, 233, 234, 334 (select 1)

5) "DIFFERENT" - (you will definitely have to use the website search function
on this one. Type in DIFFERENT, and select the TITLE option in the
"Search By" from the drop down menu. The 78 results will range from
lot #'s 53 through 598. You will be selecting 5 from lot range 53 to 340,
and 5 from lot range 341 to 598).

TIP: Make sure to only search by title. If you do it by description you will, for example, get different DIFFERENT search results

Your goal is to answer the above 5 questions more correctly than your fellow Net54'er. In the case of a tie, the first guesser is the top winner.

An example of the format your 5 answers should look like is as follows (the below answers would get you ZERO correct, since these example lot numbers all include the letter 'a', and there are no lot numbers in the auction with the letter 'a'):

1) ASSORTED: 104a
2) PAIR: 42a
3) TRIO: 94a
4) CARAMEL: 230a
5) DIFFERENT: 54a, 242a, 243a, 246a, 284a / 352a, 404a, 413a, 515a

The prizes are as follows: The top guesser gets his choice of 1 card from the HOF prewar cards seen in the first scan below, AND 2 cards from the second scan. The runner up will get either (their choice) 1 card from the prewar HOF'er scan, OR 2 cards from the second scan, after the top guesser has made his choices. And the third place finisher will get 1 card from the second scan.

You are allowed two total guesses, with no edits. All guesses need to be posted by 8pm EST on Saturday, March 2nd, the same night that the auction closes.

Good Luck!

Brian

P.S. The backs of all the potential prize cards are in decent shape, with only the 1933 Goudey Lyons having a little back damage, the 1919 Zeenut Westerzil with some writing, and the 1922 Zeenut Cartwright with added paper. The 1939 Play Ball player names are as follows: Hershel Martin, James Ripple and Harry Craft. The 1941 W753 Browns card is Fritz Ostermueller.

Hi Brian -

Thanks as always for the contest. Here are my guesses:

First guess:

Assorted: 447
Pair: 249
Trio: 114
Caramel: 231
Different: 79, 94, 106, 317, 325 / 352, 371, 369, 402, 435

Second guess:

Assorted: 123
Pair: 108
Trio: 114
Caramel: 231
Different: 53, 79, 106, 113, 317 / 341, 352, 368, 514, 515

N.B. there's a typo in your original post. The "trio" search results include lot 114 not 115.

Thanks nat, and also thanks on spotting my error. I always like to be reminded that I am a human. It has been corrected. My error, not my humanity.

And nat also formatted his answers expertly.

It is about time for more of you participate. Both nat and StraightRaceCars have taken full advantage of posting their two allotted guesses, and did so with perfect form and grace.

I highly advise that you utilize the search function (and search by 'Title'), even for the first four contest categories that only have a handful choices, because it will show you a nice visual of all the lots to choose from. And in the 'Different' category, if you change the page view to 100, you can see all the lots on one page.

Good Luck!

As it stands, the 3 that have participated so far are the 3 winners. That means you have pretty good odds to sneak into the winner's podium with just a little bit of effort, doing something that we all should be good at, inspecting lots in auctions.

Last chance to get in your two sets of guesses and potentially knock one of the three current winners off the beater card platform.

You have until 8pm EST to enter this contest, and don't forget the auction ends later tonight as well.

I will comb through the extensive participant guesses that were submitted and, after many hours of toil, will on Sunday provide the results of which 3 of the 4 participants just won.

Brian (lack of participation just sealed the future fate of this, my last contest. It's been fun, but obviously time to move on)

And the winners are:

First Prize (one card from 1st scan, two cards from 2nd): nat

Second Prize (either one card from 1st scan, OR two cards from 2nd scan): StraightRaceCars

Third Prize (one card from 2nd scan): jcarroll84

Fourth Prize (hell, why not go out with a bang - one card MY choice from 2nd scan): rpz2

Just so happens the results ended up being in same order as submissions. The world is an unpredictable place. I will be contacting the winners shortly.

Thanks,

Brian

Funny how the winners all ended up in order...

Thanks again Brian!

Sorry that the contest had little interest, but I'm not complaining!
