Default T225 Khedival/Khedivial

Hey guys,

I know that the T225 Type 1's say Khedival and the Type 2's say Khedivial, but does anyone know why the spelling of the company changed between the two?

Seems a bit odd that it did.

Thanks for any help.

Best,

AndyH

Andy,

T225-1 has both spellings: Khedival / Khedivial

Here are the 5 possible Khedival / Khedivial backs (according to Adam W.'s book):

t2251b.jpg

(I do need a few Surbrug backs to complete my T225 Bat. Nelson run, but that's another storey !!)

Khedivial with stats Factory 57
Khedivial with stats Factory 348
Khedival no stats no Factory
Khedival no stats Factory 57
Khedival no stats Factory 348

T225-2 all are Khedivial Factory 348 backs:

t225cobb.jpg

(I only need Willetts to finish my T225-2 set, but that's another another storey !!!)

Quick search gives us this definition:

khedive [kɪˈdiːv]
n
(Historical Terms) the viceroy of Egypt under Ottoman suzerainty (1867-1914)
[from French khédive, from Turkish hidiv, from Persian khidīw prince]
khedival , khedivial adj

So both spellings seem to be acceptable.

My opinion is that Khedivial is the Company's name, and Khedival is an ultimate "mis-spelling." I'd hate to have been the guy who did the final sign off on the proof !!!

FUN set by the way !!!!!!!!!

Super response, thank you so much. I really like this set a lot. Only 25 cards to procure and the images are great with a little auto to go with them.

I had no idea that both spellings came in the type 1's let alone 5 different possibilities. Thanks for that tidbit.

I like your idea that the Khedival spelling is possibly a mis-spelling considering this poster spells it Khedivial. I think more attention may have been spent on the poster before production than the card backs.

Is there a premium for any of these backs on the type 1's and is there a consensus on order of scarcity by chance?

Thanks again,

AndyH

The ciggie boxes also spell it "Khedivial" so the "Khedival" is just a misspelling. Someone had a Homer Simpson moment.
