Default GAI 1st issue explanation not 1st graded

I have a T206 with a very low cert number 10022420 which was graded by GAI and the label reads 1st issue. I'm familiar with the discussions on the 1st graded cards graded by GAI. any thoughts on what the 1st issue on the label signifies. My guess since it was one of the very early cads graded by GAI that could it be the first T206 graded by them?

Any info would be appreciated, TIA, Joe

Joe,

Does the slab label say "First Graded"?

GAI used to put "First Graded" on any card that had the first numerical grade for that card. For example, there would be potentially 10 "First Graded" T206Cobb Red background cards. The "First Graded" text would be listed on each slab for the first card graded a 1, 2, 3, etc (up to 10).

GAI was, at first, a respected TPG but something went really awry. They never approached PRO (another TPG) status for providing numerical grades to trimmed cards but it was obvious something significantly changed at GAI. Then they went down the tubes, in flames.... I think GAI cards probably sell or trade at a discount. I don't think GAI graded reprints as originals but the fact they started to provide numerical grades to trimmed cards didn't help them at all.

Ok, I guess I should have completely read that first post. I don't recall "First Issue" on the GAI slabs. It'd be nice to read that explanation.

The low cert number 10022420 makes me think it was the first T206 slabbed by them, possibly?

Default First Issue

Taking a guess it may be a term used to denote which variation was first issued and later corrected. Since this card is labeled Magie it was issued before the corrected Magee version.

Jerry, Thanks for the reply and that is a great guess. I wonder if they had graded a previous Magie at a GAI 1, would that one read first issue first graded. Still a bit of a mystery.

Default Here's my guess...

If this is the error card (and I can't tell because of the low quality scan, but the title makes me think it is), then it's probably the "first issue" of 1909 Sherry Magee cards. The second issue would be the corrected version. Is it that simple?
