Default Would the Wagner had sold for more had it not been restored?

I have no idea what this card looked like before it was restored but assuming it was at least POOR.. would it have sold for more without all the work done?

anyone have a before pic??

In a case like this, before and after pictures should accompany the card. Prospective buyers are entitled to this information.

I have dealt with comics for years, most of the time a cgc restored grade book, sells for alot less than a copy that would have been left alone. Not sure if that would apply here, but I would want it in original condition...

Marty,

I don't think this one sold. The listing just ended. This card has been the subject of much discussion around here. It was sold in the Legendary Live auction at the 2009 National. It was offered for auction by Mears a couple of months ago. Mears, to their credit, showed copies of the order form that listed all the restoration work that had been done.

Suffice it to say this really isn't a "Wagner" as much as it some common cards, cut up and rebuilt into a "Wagner."

If I can find the old thread, I'll post it.

Edit: That was easy. The link to the Mears auction and order forms is in my original post.

How can you tell it didn't sell???

I can see the 11 offers were declined..

Perhaps this was the original;

Because there is no final price listed. All of the offers were declined, as you noted. If it sold it would say something to the effect of "Sold For: $xxxxxx.xx"

It also did not sell in Mears as it didn't reach the reserve. The high bid was $160,771.

It did sell in Legendary's 2009 live auction for $222,000.

I don't know this for a fact, but I read somewhere that this card had actually been cut out, almost like a die-cut card, and then restored by grafting it onto a T206 common.

If you read what the restoration company did, that's believable.

Just think what they can do with ordinary wear and tear.
