I posted lots of special prewar HOFers on my sale page tonight, including the following post-1920 cards:

-the aforementioned DiMag
-a Caramelo Deportivo Ray Brown
-two ridiculously tough 1931 W502 HOFers
-a couple of super high-grade 1928 W502 HOFers
-An Orcajo Postcard Bill McKechnie
-a smattering of other R, E, W, and T HOFers.

I'm currently taking offers on Net54 for a few days. I know "taking offers" is something people usually dislike, but I figured I'd make the cards available to you guys here for a couple days before I load them into my eBay store at a fixed price.

Have a look:

Thanks in advance.

could be my views, perhaps, but it doesn't look like everything is matched up with the right images, etc...

Hey Jason:

Try refreshing your browser - I made a lot of updates last night, and sometimes my site will stick in your cache and you'll need to refresh the page. Kind of like rinsing with mouthwash after you've eaten something nasty.

Al,
Page is loading fine for me. Quick question. Do your 1931 W502s have any writing on the back like "One Bagger" etc.? I have one into SGC right now with a blank back and they have labeled it as a 1931 W-UNC. IS this the same set? Any help would be appreciated.

If the text and images don't line up, try clicking on a card and then hitting back on your toolbar, it worked for me.

Thanks, guys.

Jeff, both the 1931 W502s have the "One Bagger - Hold What You Got" printed on the back (each in a different direction). Just like the regular 1928 W502s.

I've seen a blank-backed one that looked like a W502 - a net54 member owns it, it's a Lefty Grove - that's classified as W-UNC. Not sure where it comes from, but it does raise more questions about W502s and what they are.

Al, I thought all the 1931 W502s were blank backed? In fact, I thought all the W502 that were blank backed were in fact not the 1928 W502 issue but a different issue from 1931 and should not have been categorized as W502.

How do you tell a 1928 W502 One Bagger from a 1931 W502 One Bagger?

King:

The 1931 W502s, if I recall, are numbered differently and have some different players from the 1928s.

I pulled those two 1931s right off my shelf and looked at the backs; admittedly it was late and it's possible I pulled the wrong ones off the shelf, but I don't believe I did. Let me rephrase: if I did that, I'm just a little bit higher on the evolutionary scale than a monkey.

I do believe that the blank-backed W502s are actually not W502s, but A) I have absolutely no evidence to back this up other than the fact that blank backs are more plentiful than printed backs and, in the context of the game, blank backs make no sense, and B) I believe I'm the only person in the hobby that thinks this. At the same time, I've never seen a W502 that says "OUT" on it, and there are outs in baseball, so it's possible that the blank-backed ones are just supposed to be outs. Unfortunately, until someone unearths some companion piece that describes the rules of the game, the issuer of these cards and the meaning of the game are lost to history - one reason I stopped collecting the set.
