If so, it is bringing a lot more than $28K

But we can't see the bidders!

the (not so) fine print from the listing:
"YES! THIS IS THE SAME CARD REFERENCED BY YAHOO.

YES! IT HAS BEEN AUTHENTICATED BY JOE ORLANDO, PRESIDENT OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS AUTHENTICATOR.

YES! WE WILL MAKE IT A PRIVATE BIDDER AUCTION FOR YOUR SECURITY.

YES! YOU CAN PICK IT UP IN PERSON IF DESIRED.

YES! WE WILL ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS.

YES! IT IS AMONG THE MOST VALUABLE PIECES IN THE ENTIRE HOBBY.

YES! WE WILL HUNT YOU DOWN IF YOU RUIN THIS AUCTION FOR EVERYONE BY BIDDING IT UP AND THEN NOT PAYING."

Even though it could benefit me if it goes sky high I think it's already at least 2x-3x over what it should be. My opinion is it's about a 20k-25k card....give or take. Heck, with the current price that would make mine be worth quite a bit.
I will never forget placing my max bid on mine, with Mastro, and getting up in the morning to find out I had actually won it. I was very happy. IT must have been about 8-9 yrs ago...best regards

This is NOT the same card that the lady in California found. This is one that has been trimmed down and was on ebay just a few days ago with a $28,000 BIN.

That is NOT the same card that was recently discovered. Note the tricky wording in the auction: "This is the same card referenced by Yahoo" (which means this is the same kind of card, not the exact same card).

Here's the recent find:

As I write this post, the card presently is at $67,600 with 59 bids. IMO, an UNTRIMMED one (this one is trimmed) in generally vg-ex condition (as a practical matter as good as it gets for an item like this) in normal economic times would have a FMV of around $50K. So now in these crummy economic times a trimmed one is purportedly at a price 1/3rd higher than that. Is this "auction" meant to be taken seriously?

Most serious bidders would be placing snipes on such an item, and not bidding heavily in the first 12 hours of a 10-day listing. So my guess is these are not serious bids...

The Cleveland card has been relisted--his 1st paragraph tells why previous auction was canceled:

It is not the lady's card---it is a different one as stated above. Her card will be sold later and is not trimmed. His referencing of Yahoo is misleading--trying to capitalize on her publicity.

The seller says:

"YES! We will consider monthly payments with $50,000 down within 7 days. 5K or more monthly thereafter. This rare collectible however will remain in the vault until full payment is made."

Well, folks will bid what they want to but the current market, in good times, is about 15k-25k...according to the few last sales I remember, of trimmed ones ...Should be interesting to see how/where it ends....

In all the deals I have done with Board members on the B/S/T, I have never been asked to deliver a card in person. Should I ever get that request, however, I note that like this particular eBay seller, I also may "come with [an] armed police escort."

From the power-washed scans designed to hide imperfections to the ridiculous langauge in this seller's listing...and now a private auction to boot (with no reserve -- yeah right). This one just screams fraud. By the way, I'm curious which members of a police force are providing armed protection for this jackass?

I don't think it's fraudulent....I think the guy actually has the card. He did have it up on ebay with a BIN well before the lady found hers and made big news. This guy is just trying to capitalize on her good fortune. He's a slimy seller...that much is for sure.

Dan, I agree. I think the card is legit -- I just think that this seller is so over the top full of it, his scans universally misleading...that it is not possible to believe that he is letting this card go without pumping up the price -- and the fact he is using a private auction supports that theory.

I don't know what's weirder, the fact it says "NO! We cannot respond to the 2,000+ emails flying in from people who can't afford the postage" when they are offering free shipping or the threat to "HUNT YOU DOWN IF YOU RUIN THIS AUCTION FOR EVERYONE BY BIDDING IT UP AND THEN NOT PAYING".

"YES! WE WILL MAKE IT A PRIVATE BIDDER AUCTION FOR YOUR SECURITY."

A fraudster always has an incomprehensible reason as to why their auctions need to be private. So, I suppose when ebay made it virtually impossible to identify the winner of an auction that wasn't enough? And what kind of security is needed for the winner of the auction? This idiotic explanation is almost as good as my favorite: "all of our auction are private because when we set up the auctions they had all previously been set as private and we forgot to change it." I think that was London Ventures' false excuse....
