Favorite T206 Artistic Flare Pose card or cards
Posted By: vetekbob
In the chat room last night, we got to talkin about T206 as to artistic flare and registration and favorite poses. Thank you goes out to Wonka for fueling my new addiction even more lol If I become homeless from my new set addiction, I figure I can always use the holdered cards I have to make some kind of shelter to keep my head try lol Hope it doesnt come to that though. My question to the rabid T206 fans and or collectors is which card or cards are your favorite from the set pose wise and artistic wise and why? |

I think the beauty of the T206 set is really the variety it offers. With portraits and action shots, and a variety of backgrounds. |

Actually, what makes the T206 set so popular among other things is the scope of its beautiful artwork. The N162 set is objectively nicer, but there are 8 cards. The T206 set has 523 of which the vast majority are just so well rendered. What about the Johnson portrait? One of the most beautiful baseball cards ever made. I would guess that if there was a contest to nominate the most popular set in the history of baseball card production, T206 would get the blue ribbon. |

The Walter Johnson is a very stricking card indeed and one that is gonna cost big bucks for me down the road but worth it lol I think one could study the set for years looking at every nuance of each card and still find something new every day that they missed before. Maybe I am just whacked out of my mind in my newbie passion for the set but if I am I hope it never ever wears off lol |

I've always been partial to the Willie Keeler batting pose, maybe in part because it was the first T206 I ever bought, back in 1979, for $3. |

thanks for the post Bill the herzog card was one we were talking about last night. The Hughie Jennings is one that I am sure collectors have talked about for years lol What a great pose! Just makes you wonder what was he thinking or said to an opposing player to get such a pose thanks for sharing Bill Such pic postings help me to get my fix lol |

Bob- What do you mean when you say commons get overlooked? To a veteran collector all the poses are recognizable (I think I can still name all the players looking only at the picture). Do you mean some are undervalued? |

Barry, yes undervalued in an artistic way as well from a much small extent from the market perspective. Am I wrong in my newbie perspective? I agree that each and every card from the set is wonderful in its own way whether the player was well known or not. I guess what I meant to convey and fell short of in my previous posting was that whether card is low pop report or whether its of a HOF still makes them each equally wonderful at least to me from a individual card perspective as well as from a set perspective. My posting was also to rekindle the flames of passion for the cards themselves and to hopefully not lose sight of its "blue ribbon" as you hit the nail on the head on the head when one is collecting the set. |

The Herzog sweater pose is one of my favorites too. And to Bob, the T206 set has been analyzed to death, so it's hard to imagine any aspect of it that is overlooked or undervalued. I think at some point in their collecting nearly everyone has fallen for its allure. They don't call it a classic for nothing. |

I have to agree with Julie that Wonka's Herzog has the brightest color that I have seen thus far since I started workin on the t206. I have seen several psa 5's on Ebay that didnt have that glow and depth of color. And the N162 is ONE sweet lookin card not to mention the mayo. Never get tired of looking at them Repeating to myself, must stay focused. lol I cant wait to hear what Wonka will say on the thread as I am sure he has a lot to say and share Heres hoping this thread will send Wonka over the top to get more T206 lol Can one ever really have enough? |

I prefer the green portrait over the red cobb one. And for whatever reason, the green portrait is one that I dont see a lot on ebay slabbed in a psa4 and up. Another thing that came up last night in chat was the chief bender port. wonka brought up the fact as I believe jd also noted that the bender ports seem to be OC with very little white border on the top. I like the Bender portrait even if he wasnt HOF and I had layed off a bid the other day for one that was OC and then when the subject came up last night I found it curious. Are there certain 206 that seem to have an anamoly for being OC? |
