Very funny. Some of my personal other faves, not necessarily funny, just apt: Guy strikes out against Walter Johnson, complains to the umpire, "The third one sounded low." Reggie Jackson on Tom Seaver: "He's so good blind people come to the park to hear him pitch." Somebody about pitching to Aaron: "Getting a fastball by him is like trying to sneak the sunrise past a rooster." Somebody asked about how he pitched to Mantle: "With tears in my eyes." Stengel: "Good pitching always beats good hitting, and vice versa." Someone about how fast Cool Papa Bell was: "He could get out of bed to turn the light off and be back before it went out." Norm Cash, facing Ryan in the 9th inning of a no hitter, comes to the plate with a broomstick: "What good is a bat going to do me?" Warren Spahn after Mays hits his first ever homer off him, apparently a prodigous shot: "Gentlemen, for the first sixty feet it was a hell of a pitch."

many times when a older man was shown on camera with an obviously younger "lady" harry would say "ahhh it's great to see a father out at the old ballpark with his daughter." my favorite harry was upon watching a young couple engaged in kissing in the grandstands said to steve stone "hey he's kissing her on the strikes and she's kissing him on the balls" silence and then laughter.

full of magical, humorous talk. Roger Kahn, in talking about travelling with the Dodgers, said that listening to them talk to eachother was like magic.

Maybe there's something to this baseball stuff...

I'm from San Diego and grew up listening to Jerry Coleman. The biggest one from that list I remember is the one about Winfield's head "hitting the wall and bouncing toward second base".

He had another one when he described Randy Jones as "the little lefthander with the Karl Marx hairdo", when he should have said "Harpo Marx".

Damn, I miss listening to him call the Padres games.

Steve
