Default 1953 Bowman #36: Mr. White Sox -- Minnie Minoso
Orestes "Minnie" Minoso. "The Cuban Comet". "Mr. White Sox". Left fielder for the Chicago White Sox in 1951-1957, 1960-1961, 1964, 1976, and 1980. In 1958, first black player to play for the Chicago White Sox. Career .298 batting average. 1,963 hits and 186 home runs in 17 MLB seasons. 9-time All-Star. 3-time Gold Glove. 3-time AL stolen base leader. Inducted to MLB Hall of Fame in 2022. Chicago White Sox #9 Retired. Also starred for the New York Cubans in the Negro Leagues. First Black Cuban in MLB.

Though somewhat forgotten now, Paul Richards was very influential as a manager and later general manager in the 50s, 60s, and into the 70s.

In 1947, first black player to play for the Cleveland Indians. 1,515 hits and 253 home runs in 13 MLB seasons. 7-time All-Star. 1948 World Series champion. 2-time AL Home Run leader. 1954 AL RBI leader. 1998 MLB Hall of Fame. Cleveland Indians #4 retired. Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame. Managed Chicago White Sox in 1978. Second black player in MLB. First black player in the American League.

Even though I have completed my 1953 Bowman Color set, I'm still learning its intricacies. For example, when shopping for #41 Sammy White I noticed that it was more expensive than other ungraded commons in excellent or better condition. Well, here is #41 Sammy White
