Default Hank Greenberg card - how rare or not ?

Posted By: Alan

I was not the seller nor a bidder for this. Just curious if this is a rare card ? easy to find ? Is this the right price for it to sell for ? Thanks. Alan

That price seems unreal for that card with a hole in it.

Default Hank Greenberg card - how rare or not ?

About three weeks ago, I bought the same card ... cut perfectly into four cards. The total price I paid for all four was about $15. I also picked up a '36 Exhibit with Grove, Foxx, Cronin and Ferrell (it arrived in the mail yesterday) in excellent condition (no pinhole) from Lew Lipset for about $50 ...

The high bidder who won the card is an advanced collector. If he needed that card then it's a hard card to find that doesn't come up for sale often. If it did then he would've already had it. There were 3 guys on it at $250 and over and you don't know what snipes got rejected at the end.

An advanced collector is somebody who has been collecting the same set or theme for a long time. If you compare the wantlists of several advanced collectors they tend to be similar. A lot of the same cards are needed so when one comes up for sale the price can surprise somebody with less experience chasing the item. The SCD price of $125 for a NM card apparently had no influence on their bids.

1938s are tough for the 4-in-1 cards.
