Default Ty Cobb T206 ??

Hello guys! I just stopped and looked at a few cards an older guy had.

1 was a Ty Cobb t206 Portrait[red] w/ Old Mill back. I forgot my camera, but had a magnifier w/ me. The card looked right holding it. But under magnify, the name COBB was in BLUE, as was Detroit. The printing on the card looked ok, had the "dotting" pattern. The name in blue made me think fake/reprint.

I'm sorry for asking, but wanted some advice. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to answer/help me out.

PS- Original examples will have the name, team etc...In BROWN color?

Could it have been a T213 rather than a T206? They do have blue font, but its also larger than T206 so it would be hard to mistake the two. Also not sure if T213's come in an Old Mill back?

No, that is the reason I said "Old Mill with blue font on front"

Had he said Coupon on back.....then it would have only been a miss classification of a T213-2 or -3.

What do you mean by "they are larger" than t206?

I was referring to the font size. Doesn't matter, its not a T213

The COBB Detroit was blue and the lettering was "large". I told him that it was a reprint/fake, and he said..."no way, I had the guy at the card shop here look at it and he said its real, and that's good enough for me". I told him about this site and the knowledge it contains with wonderful members who know and can help out with these type of questions. His response..."Im not interested in any of that". Its sad to see someone that does'nt care about what is correct and what is not. I did'nt press to much, he is 83, and does have some nice authentic stuff. He can enjoy the hobby the way he does, just hate to see someone buying things that are not "good".

Again, thank you to everyone that has taken the time to help out.

I may go back to look at some others and take my camera with me. He had 1900's thru 1960's. About 40 total, including a Mantle 52t rc.

Maybe the guy at the card shop has a vested interest in the Cobb being real. As in, sell an old guy a fake card and say it is real so as to keep him coming back buying more cards......

Not accusing anyone but old people ARE the ones most usually targeted for scms.

He runs a local show here in NY once a month. Thing is, he has nothing but shiny stuff on his table. Im thinking of asking him about this "real" Cobb he told this guy was authentic.
