Thanks, I know Johnny Hopp played from 39-52. I can find nothing on Jimmy Hopp which is why I think it might be Jimmie (y) Wilson who managed the Cubs 1941-44.

It appears to be Johnny Hopp wearing a St. Louis Cardinals uniform, Hopp playing for the Cardinals in 1941

Thanks, that could be but the others are Cub players. As I checked the pictures out closer, I found 3 from 1941 and 3 from 1942 (tell it is 1942 because of the HEALTH patch on the uniform). This one I can't tell and am only going by what is written on the photo. I gather it is possible the Cubs and Cards were playing that day and the person got 3 Cubs and one Cardinal.

Now I am confused - I did a re-look and it appears that is a 1939 Bicentennial patch on his uniform so this would make this a 1939 photo - still have no idea of who it is.

I saw a photo labelled as 1944 (of Hopp and Musial) with the patch. If the dating is correct, the patch was worn for multiple years.

Thanks, apparently, then, the Cubs were a team that worn the patch only one year, 1939. This is according to their team history. Sooo - still don't know who this guy is.

Hello,

I believe the photo shown is Johnny Hopp in a Stl. Cardinals uniform from 1942-45. The Health patch seen in the photo is from that time period.

Can you post the other photos? Might help in solving if they were from the same time frame.

I agree - he's wearing a Cardinals jersey and cap, not the Cubs. Wonder what the story is with the bandage...

I got these all listed as 1941 Cubs but the 3 (Hack, Olsen, Warneke are 42 because of the patch. The 3 Dallesandro, McCullough, Stringer are 41 Cubs so that leaves the one labeled Jimmy Hopp. Providing it is Johnny Hoop of the Cardinals it would be a 1942 then and go with the 42 Cubs. Maybe he was talking to a fan and this person got his picture and mis-spelled his name and maybe a Cubs Cardinals game?

Okay, there's some info that does potential help.

1. Vern Olsen would only be able to wear that style uniform in 1942.
2. On July 8, 1942, the Chicago Cubs purchased Warneke. Meaning at least this photo of Lou Warneke was taken sometime after 7/8/1942.

IF the set of photos were all taken from the same game in 1942 (Olsen, Warneke & Hopp) that narrows the time frame window.

Cardinals vs. Cubs at Wrigley Field

August 11-13th 1942
or
September 20th 1942 double header.

Just one possibility.
