Default Prices Realized On One T206

I keep a good record of what T206's sell for and I used the fine T206 estimator and the value comes out to $75 on the card below. The PSA5 Harry Pattee sold for $333+. Am I missing something? Usually the estimator and the prices realized are a tad closer.

Thank You!

I saw that same horizontal card (1 of the 2 I need to finsh the horiz. subset) raw for $120 in VG or G condition with a common back. I don't understand why it's priced higher - I believe its a common, anyone know the answer?

a few reasons
sometimes horizontals claim a premium on ebay.
ex is a lot different than vg or g.
maybe two dudes were battling out for this particular card.

Plus is a nice looking horizontal and difficult to find in EX and above for the set collectors. Hope this answers your question.

Patee is one of the few players who was only distributed in the 150 series. Therefore the card is short printed and a premium is due. That's one of the error's in the T206 estimator, that I identified and will be talking to Trae about. The Pelty horizontal falls into the same catagory, and also sells for a premium. Be well Brian

$120 for a raw one in g-vg? Be patient Trae, you'll find an example of that card in comparable condition for 1/4 of the price on ebay.

Brian.
while flippin through the monster for the first time in quite a while today, I came across that pic of the alternate eddie collins "proof" pose.
Any clue where that example might be?

I remember reading that charlie sheen owned it or something really silly like that.

Hi Robert,
Leland's auctioned off Sheen's collection in April of 2000, where the Collins proof sold for 24,930.00. I'm not sure who won the auction, but Josh might fill us in. Thanks Brian

to be found with those back types (El Principe, Hindu, Old Mill, Piedmont, Sovereign and Sweet Caporal). However, before I started collecting caramels, I had quite a large collection of every one of the 150 Series ONLY cards (except the Wagner). The cards ONLY issued in the 150 Series are: G.Brown (Cubs) (in fact, much scarcer than the more expensive Washington variation - a good buy at common prices!), M. Brown (Cubs on Shirt), Burch (Batting), Donlin (Fielding), Evers (Cubs On Shirt), Pattee (Hor.), Pelty (Hor.), Powers and Reulbach (Glove Shows).

My experience was (and I searched EVERYWHERE for these 150 Series cards and had multiples of each - again, I am talking about the ones ONLY issued in the 150 Series - not found in the 350): These can ONLY be found with the backs listed below (THEREFORE, THESE LISTED BACKS ARE THE 150 SERIES BACKS):

Hindu (Brown)
Piedmont 150
Sovereign 150
Sweet Caporal 150 (Fact. 25, 30 and 649 O/P).

El Principe and Old Mill were not issued UNTIL the 350 Series (I don't care what any book or anybody says). If cards were issued with these brands in the 150 Series of 1909, then one of these nine cards would have to have an Old Mill or El Principe back - and NONE of them are found with either of those two backs!!!!!!!!!!! Sure, other portraits and cards issued in the 150 Series can be found with these two backs - however, these were all issued in the 350 Series, as NONE of the Nine 150 Series Only cards are found with these two brand backs. If anyone has one of these nine players with an El Principe or Old Mill back, then prove me wrong - please (as I have bought these and researched them for sometime and still have trouble getting this point through to some old timers).

has anyone ever seen a Schulte Front View (Cubs on Chest) with a 350 Series back? I know, according to the books and experts it is suppose to be a card issued in the 150 and 350 Series. However, Brian W. and I talked about this over a year ago - as of that time (we both had a few each and had seen several), we had only seen this card with 150 Series backs? Is this another card that was issued only in the 150 Series of 1909? Does anybody own one with a 350 Series back?

One other thing we have not seen in awhile is the hyper prices paid for T206 PSA 5's. In the past they have gone for as much as $200 for a common.

By the way My Schulte is a Piedmont 150 back.

Hi guys,
I didn't really want to get into this discussion right now, but I believe Scott is on the right track with ELPDG and Old Mill. I can't prove it yet, but I am working on it with a few more board members. We will let you know when we have something more definitive on any changes that need to be made to "The Monster". Thanks Brian

Scott, I have two T206 sets.
The first one is a very decent grade, and needs just one card.

The second one is what I call a set made up of cards that have been loved and handled by every tobacco card collector since 1909, and it needs 41 cards for completion.
Believe it or not, it's the first set I started, and I love it more than the Miss Congeniality set that I put together.

I just looked at it, and that set has a Schulte Front View (Cubs on Chest) with a 350 Series back.

If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have looked.
All of you have something to contribute.
That's what makes this board, a very interesting board.
All together.
Bravo's and Bow's.

OK, please help me make sure I got this right:

In 1909, the T206 cards were FIRST issued in a series of 150...

and the ONLY backs on those first "set of 150" cards were:

Hindu (Brown)
Piedmont 150
Sovereign 150
Sweet Caporal 150

And the only HOF'er cards in that FIRST "set of 150" that NEVER appeared again in any later sets were:

M. Brown (Cubs on Shirt) and Evers (Cubs On Shirt)??

So all other HOF's with cards and poses in that first "series of 150" also have the same fronts with various 350 backs??

But a T206 Walter Johnson portrait with one of the four previously mentioned "Series of 150" backs would definitely have been printed BEFORE one with a different type back??

Hi Hal!

Do you have "the monster?"
You need to get it. It will save you a lot of time...especially if you are trying to pinpoint what backs are available with what hall of fame fronts.

That's why I kept saying, "Don't look for a walsh portrait with a really rare back." Because, there aren't any out there. Brown hindu or epdg is the rarest possiblility your gonna get for walsh.

Of course, there are some things that might need to be changed since the short work was issued, and that's where some of the guys on this board who are meticulously studying the set come in...but most of it is covered...and its a fun read.
take care.

Would love to post a scan, but I don't own a scanner.
Right now, this computer illiterate is in the process of getting a replacement for my Compaq 2200 Presario, with Windows 95 and 5.0 AOL.
Old Faithful has given me all she has since '97 or '98.
I do have a year old 17" monitor.
As for the comp. I need to get something with XP home, 512 whatever it's called, plenty of Gigs and whatever else I may need.
I want a scanner, because when I grow up, I wanna be just like Julie.
I want it like yesterday.
Still trying to figure out which one, and what compatible comp I should get.
Contrary to popular belief, money is a factor to someone on a fixed income.
As far as T- cards:
That's when insanity sets in and takes over.
Any idea's or help, will be most welcomed.

When I get the new equiptment, I will post a New thread to Scott E. and Brian in reference to the 150 / 350 back.
Joe

PS.
What exactly did Scott E. mean by:
"However, Brian W. and I talked about this"
("we both had a few each and had seen several").

A few what?

jOE

350 backs were printed in 1909 also, just later in the year. One would presume that 150 back fronts were printed before 350 backs, but it's possible that the fronts were all printed at the same time, and then a different back (a 350) was affixed to the front.

Hi Joe,

You can get a decent scanner for 200.00 or less these days, and we would all love to see pictures of your awesome collection on the board.
Scott Elkins and I have both believed for quite some time that Schulte front view may have only been printed in the 150 series, but your revelation tells us we were wrong. I know I have owned or viewed over a hundred Schulte's and have never seen a 350 back. Obviously there are several cards which appear first in the 150 series and then again sparingly in the 350 series. Hurry up and get a scanner so I can see "slow JOE".

Hope to meet you at the National Brian

Any pros and cons, plus which one would you recommend. .... or should I concentrate on a scanner period?
Thank you.

Hi Joe,
I'm far from a computer expert, but there's a recent thread on the board which addresses which scanners are best. The National is in Chicago, in August I think, but I'm not sure of the dates. My scanner is a hp scanjet 4570c that my wife bought me for Christmas, and it seems to to a good job.

Good luck Brian

An HP all-in-one (printer, copier, scanner) is my tool of choice.

Besides I found the MATTY/DEVLIN Lee needs to complete his set today, so I'm feeling pretty good.

Thanks for the National info.

Which model -- how many DPI's in the scanner? (Hey, how about that DPI question?)

OK, Robert A... now I am confused.

I know that WALSH was in the "Series of 150."

But according to the previous post, he was NOT one of the two HOF's who ONLY appeared in that "150" set (Evers and M. Brown).

To me, this sounds like Walsh was included in the "Series of 350" sets as well.

MANY of those sets have RARE backs... so why would there be NO Walsh cards with those backs?

Were there DIFFERENT players in the "Drum 350" set and the "American Beauty 350" set than there were in the "Piedmont 350" set??????

Thanks for the link Trae - I just bought one. You are rapidly becoming the king of all things t206. Now if you could just give me the story of Buck Hooker....I can't find any info on him and am curious about the Virginia League players.

I will try and find some information on Buck for you - although I'd be willing to bet someone knows something and will light there bulb for you and output somme stuff you need to know. I will never be the king, though I do appreciate the faith in me! I am just getting started - I have some ideas up my sleeve to help everyone become their own king of T206 knowledge. With the help of the right kind folks around here my project(s) will be a definite success for all of us who collect T206's. My goal is knowledge and a one-stop resource for all!
