Default I need t206 advice and opinions

I’m seeking advice and opinions from collectors who’ve been in the t206 market for a while. Both of these cards can be bought for around $275. If you had to pick which one for $275 let me know which one you buy and why.

Its really going to depend on your objective. Are you building a midgrade set? Only HOFers? Best ROI? What's the purpose for the pickup? Personally I'm likely never going to consider doing a T206 set and a T206 in a 5 isn't uncommon so it has very little appeal to me. I would take the HOFer any day despite its flaws.

There’s no right or wrong answer here. Totally depends on your personal preference and collecting objectives. For me, I’m going after the set of 520, but to do so, I need to collect low grade. And I want my set to be uniform condition wise, so a PSA 5 doesn’t work for me. Also, my only deal breakers are trimmed cards or cards with writing on them. So, that eliminates the Brown as well. While neither of these cards work for me, there are hundreds of people out there, collecting with different parameters, who would love to have them. To each their own - no wrong way to do t206. There’s a collector for every card.

Which card speaks to you more?

Don't overthink it, that's the one you want to buy.

Default T206 Advice

Great question… and good comments by others here.

I will always vote a decent looking HOF’er over a sharp common graded card, but that’s my preference. Both will sell well so I wouldn’t be worried about that either.

I think you know deep down which one you like more.

Which one, will you appreciate and enjoy more, research, show to friends etc? Which one keeps you up at night thinking about their bio and history?

Just a few thoughts… I personally get way more excited thinking about hall of famers.

Personally, the willett is too o/c for me to spend big money on it. It’s in an older holder but it likely would still grade pretty high.

The brown is nice presenting. It’s a portrait. It’s an hof. It’s got a much higher long term ceiling.

But as others have said well, it depends on the buyer.

The “cubs” graffiti on the front of the Brown card makes it a no for me. If it wasn’t for that, I’d go with the HOFer. I’d also feel good about cracking it open at that grade. I’d have to keep the other one in its case, which is not how I keep most of my cards.

Another vote for the Willett, as it looks sweet. All of those creases and the writing on the Brown might as well be three fingers poking me in the eyes.

A hard question to answer.

Over the years I've drifted between wanting nice cards to wanting more cards and back.
I'm also in my occasional "who would pay that much for a common?" phase which comes up right after every major price increase.

Quick answer,
I'd get the Brown because I already have a Willett.

Complicated answer,

Over time, the brown will probably appreciate more. Unless the hobby drifts away from collecting star players and towards better preserved examples no matter who is on them (Don't hold your breath waiting for that....)

But it does come down to which you'd personally enjoy more.

I like my T206 Willett batting cards to be big bordered parallelograms, so I guess I would go with the Brown.

I personally hate marked cards. They just bother me. I only own two cards that contain writing - both expensive rookie cards which I wish I’d upgraded before the boom. I vote Willet.

I think the PSA 5 has the most upside if you decide to upgrade to a HOFer later.
