Default Amazing WWII Iwo Jima Big League Ball Pamphlet/Program

Just got an absolutely amazing piece. This is a pamphlet from Iwo Jima used for a series of games played at Higashi Field Aug 29th to sep 1st. Just weeks after the bombs dropped. With a few snapshots of the original owner.

Please Read in depth Here: https://baseballinwartime.com/marianas.htm

Has anybody else seen one of these before?

Well, I see who outbid me. Congrats.

I am very familiar with this as wartime scorecards are a significant part of what I curate for our museum's collection.

Thanks everyone for the nice words.

I have not decided with 1000% certainly that I'm going to keep it, but it is one of those things that's surreal to look at and I really love that feeling.

My father was a proud member of the 5th Marine Division, known as the Spearhead division. Members of that division raised the famous flag.

That's very cool, do you know what happened to the monument shown in Iwo Jima? I assume Japan didn't want it there anymore but I can't find any info about what happened to it online.

I am not sure, but I imagine it is still there. There was a big group of veterans who went back there a few years ago, and the cemetery is almost assuredly still there and well taken care of. There was a documentary about the trip you might be able to find and you might see the memorial. After the battle they spent time in Hawaii and began training for the invasion of Japan. I believe they were once again going to the Spearhead. Fortunately, they never had to do that.

This may be the same monument. It may have had a lot of stuff added to it over the years.

Thanks everyone for the knowledge and kind words.

It seems Iwo Jima items are magnetized to me as of recent. I found this snapshot on eBay last week and it just arrived.

It Shows "Iwo Jima Field?" with a beautiful Baseball Today sign hanging below. I'm not sure what field this is, and can't find any other photos of it. Is this Higashi Field with a different name?? I can't find any information on it at all.

The back reads: This is our baseball field. (It isn't?) Ebetts Field but is a pretty good one anyway.

In Red:
Chief Censor Undecided if this picture can be sent.

Absolutely amazing, if this field was being treated as a classified/hidden area that would be a really surreal thought and discovery.

I would like to think one of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Iwo Jima took this photo. (Lew Riggs, Chet Kehn or Stan Rojek.) Maybe somebody is familiar with their handwriting knows?

Thanks for looking!
Lucas
