That darn grandpa is at it again
Posted By: TBob
There is a seller selling tons of vintage card reproductions on ebay who says they all belonged to his grandfather. T206s with black Sovereign backs, etc. I guess grandpa was quite active in the reprint mrket in the 80's and 90's! He is selling some of the reproductions in mangled shape for a bunch. Gee, I could have sold the buyers the same fakes in Mint shape for a buck... |

I noticed that too.....that ole grandpa was sure busy...he probably played around on ole grandma too ......all of the cards have at least one area of "too white" on them too.....and they all look sufficiently mangled to catch some unsuspecting folks.....(like me several times in the past)....good post......regards all |

I WONDER WHY EBAY( OTHER THAN MONEY) DOES NOT TAKE ACTION AGAINST THIS FLAGRANT MIS-LEADING TYPE AUCTIONING, AS IT HURTS EVERYONE WHO IS HONEST BY MAKING THE NEW BUYERS WARY OF RIP-OFFS. I HATED TO BE A BUTT-INSKI BUT I DID EMAIL THE BIDDERS AND THE SELLER WITH A MESSAGE STRONGLY SUGGESTING THE N28'S WERE REPO'S.....LAST TIME I CHECKED THIER BIDS HAD BEEN RETRACTED BUT NO REPLY FROM THE SELLER......WHAT A SUPRISE |

I agree with the Brooks that the major problem with these types of frauds is that it most likely going to be the beginners, testing the vintage card hobby for the first time, who are going to be burned (very hot water or my metaphors are mixed) and be scared away. In the end, if this type of fraud is not addressed well, it will lower the hobby's population which should be of conern to everyone on the board, especially when they try and resell down the road. |

I beleive that the best way to address this whole fraud thing, is through education. I think eBay should simply have a link to a brief but worthwhile overview of collecting Pre-War card or vintage cards in general, listing usefull books for research (ala SCD and Becett). The whole point is not to give the newbie a thorough education, but to have them think about what they are going to bid on. The guide has done its job if the potential bidder says, after reading it, "Maybe I should find someone to ask," "I think I will buy a Becket annual," or "I'm going to aske people which graders they like." |

looks like you can't explain why the retraction any longer apart from the few options both given and allowed by rules. The funniest one i saw a year ago or so stated that "the price was getting to high!" |
