If you're asking if it's a legitimate postcard then the answer is YES. I have seen a few of them over the years and I think at least two board members own that card. If you're asking if it's "real" well it's hard to say by just looking at a scan, but it looks "real". Can we see a scan of the reverse?

It looks okay to me.

I believe JC has one of these postcards.

Very nice pickup!

Dan,

Image below - my question was as to its authenticity as I am aware that these do exist It originates from Humboldt where the person (now lives in Kansas City) had a business and was found in an attic many years back...as the story goes. Thank you for your help!

Looks good to me...most of the fake postcards have a much darker appearance on the reverse side and the paper just doesn't look right. Yours looks good.

One note of interest is that yours has "copyright" written out on the bottom left corner and Jim Clark's has the "C" with a circle around it on his....yours also has a different back. I actually think that's good news for you.

Chris, I have the other Walter Johnson postcard that Dan was talking about. I know there are more than a few others out there as well. With that said yours has the same copyright and CYKO back that mine has. It looks good to me.

Clint,
Thanks for the info...my understanding is it is c.1915, do we know if that is correct or were they produced for a few years?
Thanks again,
chris

I would bet they were produced for at least a few years and that probably explains why there are different copyrights and reverses. Probably distributed by some mom and pop drug store in Humboldt, Kansas.

agree with all the above - The design on the back looks early teens to me - you can get a book on postcards that show all the different backs they used. The color of the back looks fine as well - nice piece

The photo of Walter came from a game held on November 7th, 1912 in Humboldt Kansas. These postcards could have been made for several years. They were printed on whatever paper was available at the time.

Dan, it's a postcard but I've cropped it because I hope to do a book on Kansas baseball someday. I've seen one other that sold a few years back that came from Walter's estate. This one belonged to a friend of his at one time. Here's a similar photo that sold in Mastros for big money.

Joe, sorry to ruin your night. When I finish my book I'll have to show you one that will put that postcard to shame.

You have my address so you can send an autographed copy of the book right?

Can't wait - Someday I hope to do one about Nebraska.
