Default LIVE AUCTIONS Section Of Forum

I always thought that the Live Auctions section of the forum was a place to list cards in a true auction and just maybe someone could get a decent deal on a card. It seem like lately a lot of the card are listed with the opening bid at what the card would sell for on eBay or even higher.

IF the starting bid is the same as ebay consider it a win in a few respects. Members can ask what they want to over there. And there are definitely deals to be had but they tend to get swooped up by some BST hawks >

Which one is a bad deal??? Is it one of mine?? Please let me know....I use Ebay comps and start quite a bit lower than that.

I think of a true auction as a way to determine a market price by allowing bidding, not as a means of giving a buyer a discount to a market price.

Not saying people don't have the right to do what they like, or that I even have a problem with it, but we are taught in auction school that an auction is intended to set the market not reflect it. The only way that happens is by encouraging bidding, not limiting it.

I am guessing his pet peeve is the opening bids are what the item typically sells for on Ebay. If someone wants Ebay prices, maybe sell it on Ebay?? Here you don't have to pay any fees.....maybe start a lower and if the item gets up to Ebay than great, if not, then you still made a sell and didn't have to pay any fees. Quite frankly, I am not willing to put items on here for .99 cents like I do on Ebay, because it doesn't get the eyeballs like Ebay does. I wish it did. I would LOVEEEEEEEE to put all my items on here. But the lack of eyeballs, and the fact you can only list 3 items at a time kinda makes it limiting.

Twice now, I have had my listings on the Net54 Auction forum go for really low prices. So if you are complaining about no deals on the Net54 Auction forum, you are looking at the wrong auctions.

I've seen auctions here end at completely give it away prices and felt bad for the seller. I have no problem with sellers who start auctions at the lowest price they would take, there is simply not enough traffic here to compete with Ebay.

Agreed...I think I should raise my minimum bids. I REALLY want this to work out over here though. I love the idea of these kinds of cards going to fellow collectors. And the no fees thing is a huge plus. But the lack of eyeballs is a major disadvantage.

As has been said, start your prices out where you don't get fleeced if the bids don't come in. It's not a replacement for ebay just a place to unload some cards....
