Once I thought about this topic, I immediately had difficulties figuring out which one was my best. Here's my criteria, it was a trade that you felt satisfied with. There was very little money involved. You got the prewar card that you wanted and didn't have to give up too much.

My problem with figuring out my own personal best trade is that it seems like my memory is playing tricks with me i.e. every time I think about the trade I made it gets better and better.

So instead of me making up a whopper...let me know about good trades that you have made. I am still trying to decide between a couple of trades I've made in the past.

I have had many good trades with Net54 members. Yesterday I got 2 D303 commons in the mail and I sent Toby a decent, fr conditioned, T213-2 Matty for it...probably in fr condition.....I thought it was good for both of us.....

My Niagara Baking Knabe card

and received a T-206 proof card and an ultra-high grade E-104 III. Best trade for me all around. Although I miss the Knabe card, I am much more excited about the two cards I received in exchange.

Actually, my first pre-war vintage trade took place at a card show. A dealer had a mixture of pre-war and post-war cards. For a T206 Johnson Portrait in VG-EX, I traded a '85 Topps McGwire and a 1/2 dozen other postwar cards, I also threw in $50 bucks.

This was when McGwire Rookies were selling at $150/card or so.

My first vintage trade was with Scott Elkins. I got an SGC 20 E92 Dockman Wagner throwing (my first), and he got my e92 croft cocoa lajoie gai 2.5 (I paid $125), plus an e101 common in poor condition (that I paid $15). I've since replaced the cocoa lajoie with an e101 (same image).

My favorite trade happened years ago I traded 2 '49 Bowman PCL for a Victory Tobacco Phillie I wanted. I have not owned another bowman pcl since then but am very satisfied with the trade.

My best trade (IMHO) I traded a duplicate Old Judge Phillie in p-f(really...duplicate down to the pose and caption) to another collector for a '53 Mantle in fair. I then traded the '53 Mantle at a show for $400 credit which landed me a T205 Joss, a T205 Kleinow, 3 Standard Biscuit Phillies, a Diamond Stars Mungo, and a '34 Goudey Klein. 6 months later I traded the t205 Kleinow and a t206 Burch to another collector for a different Old Judge Phillie (non duplicate) in fair. I think everyone was satisfied and I came away with far more than I thought.

Josh,

Seems like some pretty good wheeling and dealing there.

Shortly after I found the old Full Count chatboard, I traded a Gabby Street partial color printer's scrap T206 for my George Gibson D322.

Thanks again for the Tip Top Bread Gibson... Doug Allen!

Patrick
