Default Damage done during PSA submission

I noticed that when I got my 55 Koufax returned from PSA it seems to have been damaged. I know the pre-grade picture isn't great but I can't imagine that I wouldn't have seen that paper lose near his eye. Do you think that something may have happened and do you think I have any recourse?

Do you have the graded card in hand, or just a picture of it? That white spot on his face almost looks like something on the case, but if you have the card with you and can confirm it's not that, then something strange happened in between the time of the first picture and the second.

No, I actually have the card and there is definitely a huge white gash under his eye. I was shocked at the grade and more upset when I inspected the card

I only attached the pre-graded picture but the links have both images.

Yeah I don't think you would've missed that. Grade seems appropriate for the card pre "gash." I wonder if it was damaged during encapsulation?

Default Question

Are you sure it’s the same card? I see other minor changes around the right eye as well for starters. I’m on an iphone so can’t inspect more closely. Again just make sure they didn’t somehow mistakenly switch cards on you...

Have you tried shaking the case to see if it's something between the case and the card?

It is definitely a gash into the actual card. I can identify a couple other marks on it so I'm pretty sure its the same card. One additional spot is further up near the eye as well.

Well....it wouldn't surprise me that they have new employees and new employees aren't quite as seasoned as the older ones....mistakes happen....more so than with a more experience employee, and unfortunately, it looks like your card was a victim of that circumstance.

I sent them an email but I am not holding my breath on a response. Has anyone else dealt with something like this before with a submission? I am nervous that they are not going to be very helpful.

Looks like some scratches through the K and O and into his neck. My guess is someone either dropped it or set it down on an unclean surface and dragged it to pick it back up. Surprised they didn't crease it or smash the corners.

Default I would try

filing a claim with them. The most you might get would be the value you declared upon submitting and would likely need to send them the card. I've never had the situation happen, so not sure how they respond to situations like this. I don't think you are missing anything - something clearly happened to the card while in their possession.

I would call them and not rely solely on email response.
There will be a long queue but just click the option for them to return your call in order. Yesterday I called and there were 123 people ahead of me but they returned the call before end of business.

Good luck

The completely bizarre thing is there are a whole bunch of bright white spots on the card - next to his nostril, in both eyelashes, on the chin and socks of the smaller picture and in the Dodgers logo - and they all seem way too white. If you groove into a 1955 card it wouldn't/shouldn't/couldn't be that white, right?? Are each of those spots also supposed paper loss, or are some of them tiny artifacts? I know you said you can see that the card is damaged, but man, all of those things look like white detritus that settled on the card. They are all the exact same brightness of white. Weird.

I have to say I know you keep saying it's a gash in the card but to me it looks like a piece of schmutz inside the case. It looks like an actual object in the blown up version of your flickr image.

The white stuff also appears on the left border, about an inch from the top.

OP, can't you tell if the white blotches on the card are just debris between the card and the plastic? Should be a no brainer to discern... Does the white stuff on the extreme left border extend beyond the edge, or is it completely within the cardboard?
