Default “Affordable” Honus Wagner options?

As a HOF collector on budget, a few players worry me... one of my open HOF needs is Honus Wagner. What I worry about is a total break of the bank

Wonder if members might suggest ideas with some of the following “filters”

- from his playing days
- looks like him!
- good looking card
- “affordable”.... ie, under $3-5k?

Would love to hear your ideas and even see some images of the prospective targets.

Thx all - and Happy Thanksgiving to all

Jeff

You've got a lot of options trying to stay under 5K.

Best cards for my money would be the E95, M116 or M101.

You might be able to land a decent low-grade m116 for $5k too. That would be my pick for obvious reasons

Even under $3k is not very difficult. You can take your pick of E92 (and related sets), E93, E95, M101-2, M101-4/5, M116, tons of postcards, game cards (Fan Craze, National Game), etc

At $5k, if you're not picky about condition, you might still be able to get an E90-2 or E103 or if lucky, a really low grade D322.

If I could only get one, I would try to land a low grade E90-2, E103, M101-2, or look at the postcards, and if you want something higher grade and cheaper, the Fan Craze uses the same pose as the T206.

Pardon the large image, but the E90-2 Wagner is hands down my favorite card outside of his T206. The blue pops, and the portrait is modeled after the T206. Great stuff!

I believe the M116 is as well. The E90-2 is more desirable, but I find the M116 a little less cartoonish.

A bonus of picking the E254 Colgan is that it utilizes the actual b/w photo of Hans that was also used to create his T206, M116 and E103 cards.

Brian (cards most certainly not mine...I would never scan that small!)
