Well, you answered my question about the C46's. I did get my T3 lot, plus the Sports King group. |

I was high on the large T and E card lot (#780) until 4:20 AM. Ugh! Thought I had that one when I was still high seven hours after initial bidding ended! Hope others fared better than I. |

David- I was going after #780 early on, but those cards seemed awfully rough. One note: lot #571 went for about 35K with the juice. I called them for some more detailed information and never heard back. Anybody know what was in it? It was so hard to bid realistically based on their sketchy description. Edited to correct price of lot #571. |

At one point during the day I was high bidder on each of 3 Cuban lots, but they all blew by me. Maybe Ryan or someone got them and I will have a crack at individual cards somewhere downstream. |

Sounds like it would have been better to get a good night's sleep and just set the alarm for 4:00 AM. I had no idea they went that late. I used to do that with Mastro- get up at 6:00, shower, make coffee, and then sit down to bid. Can't do that anymore. |

Completely forgot about the auction until about 1am pacific. Said "Holy crap!" Logged onto the computer, bid on one lot and was lucky enough win! |

Yes I agree, the description could have been a lot better on lot 571. Why did it go so high??? A couple of bad lines in that desription as well "there is not much gradable material" and "One could go on for hours desribing this treasure trove of material in detail"... Well go on on desribe it then so people will bid it up to 50K.... Or break it up into a couple of lots to make it easier to desribe... I got outbid at 3:24Am on a Cobb postcard lot but managed to hang on to lot 783 to start off my Cuban collection.. Many HOFers in lot 784. Too bad it's missing the Cobb and jackson cards. It still would break up nicely for resale or really give you a heads start on completing the set... |

JC- I agree. Don't they owe it to their consignor to describe the lot in as much detail as possible? Aren't we to assume that there were things in that lot that weren't even mentioned, therefore in a manner of speaking were given away for free? |

LELAND RESULTS - how'd everyone do?

I haven't read through the entie thread but yesterday I drove from Newport Beach, California to Beautiful Glide, Oregon. I get to my Mom's house at 12:40 (3:40 EST) and after some time I log onto Lelands and dang the auction is still open. Someone had outbid me on lot 780 (and lot 784 and I really wanted that one) so at 1:22 PST I put my bid in and was shocked to actually see that I was the high bidder and the lot is mine. |

You weren't the only one that had their eye on the Thorpe. It looked short to me too and is the reason I didn't bid on the lot. It would have done much better in an SGC (especially) or PSA holder. I am a bit curious if it was just an oversight not to have 5k(or whatever card values) cards not in holders; being at least Ruth and Thorpe. |

A lot of auction houses, myself included, will send raw cards out to be graded before the auction as a courtesy to consignors. Between the sketchy descriptions, typos, and all the raw cards, you don't get the feeling that Leland's really has their heart into vintage cards. They love memorabilia- Dodgers, Yankees, wire photos, rock and roll- and many other areas that they specialize in, but as I went through the vintage cards I just didn't feel that same enthusiasm. |

I believe there is a chance the Ruth is an old reprint. i cant remember the website but a very knowledgeable collector on reprints had the same card graded by psa (a 1) and busted it out and explained that it was infact a reprint. All reprints have a vague printing line in the middle which the one auctioned in lelands does, and also the foot is cut off in the picture, which it shouldnt be. All reprints have the foot cut off. Anyone else familier with this website, or heard this explanation before? |

It was Andy Baran, a friend and board member, that had the fake Ruth M101-4 graded in a PSA holder. It was a big board issue for a while, several years ago. Eventually I believe he was compensated somehow. I don't remember all of the specifics now....regards |

I am the one who bought the PSA 1 Ruth that turned out to be a reprint. I bought it on ebay, and the seller immediately disappeared. It took alot of work to get in touch with the right people at PSA (they are all at GAI now), but they bought the card back from me at the full purchase price. I'm also the one who put together the Ruth Reprint page on Pete's website that is linked above. |

If the winner of the M101s (lot 784) is disappointed with the Thorpe because it might be trimmed, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. |

All for resale, all non-sports. Great batch of FDR photos for a steal of a price, about $650 with vig. (It is football season, I have to call it vig) At least I think it was a steal of a price, from my experience with FDR material, although whether I am the stealer or the stealee remains to be seen. |

If anyone won any of the Lelands auctions with Venezualan Clemente, Frank or Brooks Robinson. I would pay very strongly on those individual cards. |
