I'm not even sure whether the Southern League was considered a minor league back in 1909. My question is whether there were any minor league cards before those included with the T-206? |

Peter, the Southern League cards were minor league cards...and yes there are older minor league cards. The N172 Old Judge set is filled with minor league cards. |

I never said I was an expert on prewar cards, that is why I posed the question. Your expertise would be appreciated. |

Or do you just like to ask questions, just to be noticed? |

I would like nothing better than to spend my entire day reading baseball books but unfortunately I am unable to. It is a perfectly innocent question. I wish I had the time to question the motives of Net54 members. |

That's Broderick Crawford's line from an old movie called, "BORN YESTERDAY". |

I was joking about being an expert on baseball law, I'm not. It's also unfortunate that many of the references you mentioned are not in general circulation. Also, this may be difficult for you to believe, but not everybody lives and breathes the hobby 24 hours a day. |

Now that you know that Old Judges included minor leaguers, how would you go about identifying them if you were given a pile of OJ cards, Peter? |

to answer petes ?. no minor league team had any connection with a major league team till branch rickey innovated the system w/stl cards. they operated independently and sold better players to the majors.(to the highest bidder) at first it was thought that rickeys "farm" system would ruin the minor leagues but as we now know it helped them survive. soon after rickey innovated the farm system all the major league teams followed suit. |

To add to the Rickey thread..I think at one point the Cardinals controlled over 30 minor league teams during his time. Soon the teams like the Yankees joined the fray. |
