Default N172 Question - Leon Viau rebacked?

Picked up this Leon Viau recently and when I received it I noticed a small gap between the bottom of the photo and the edge of the card.

Questions:

- Is it rebacked?
- Is it authentic?

I've seen this on several OJs that do not appear to be rebacked. If the card was from a perimeter position on a sheet of 24 then this will result if the albumen paper was short of covering the intended area of the card. I have a couple in my Detroit collection, one on a top border and a second on the bottom.

Default well

I have a couple of nearmint N cards that exhibit the same condition. I submitted a Kalamazoo Bats card for grading with 1/32 inch of mount exposed at the bottom. They gave it a "1".

Seen the same, but I don't have a Detroit collection like Joe's.

I agree with your comments here. The card passes the sniff test (lol, smells old as dirt), the backing is certainly of period, and the photo does not show any signs of bending during removal (this is one of my primary indicators).

Thank you all for the help!
