The 1939 Playball shows Joe with a very nice smile - not always seen in his cards. The black & white photo gives a good vintage look. The '39 is a tad more affordable, giving you the chance to acquire a better grade for your buck.

Tough call for me between the 41 Playball and the 48 Leaf. I like the look of the leaf better, but the 41 is more iconic.

Not all 1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio cards are that out of focus, but I agree the facial image in even the best are less detailed than desired. It is a nice batting pose, which can also be seen in his 1940 Play Ball card.

And finally, in my opinion, the best photo of Joe is seen on this 1941 Double Play card, but it loses a lot of its appeal due to its inclusion of King Kong on the card.
