Default Yet another vintage picture request. Is it ????

In tribute to Phil's Chief Bender cabinet photo request, thought I'd share one. What the hell happy.gif
Dan Bretta stated, "The ears are the fingerprints of facial recognition...no two ears are alike."
If this is the case look at the ears on this guy. 3rd player from the right, top row.
Guy could be Eddie Collin's twin, couldn't he?

Tony -

At first glance I thought it was him.

But close eamination of the ears in comparison to a straight on shot of him on page 610 of Deadball Stars of the Am Lg shows that the ears are superficailly similar but not the same.

In your photo, the ears stick out more. Also, close examination of the outline of the left ear (viewer's right)shows that it is quite different than that of Collins.

Also - the distance from upper lip to nose is quite a bit larger for the real Collins.

Get out your Que-Tips - I will post some ear closeups later.

Bmarlowe, thank you much for the input. I definitely wasn't claiming it was Mr. Collins, just thought it really resembled him. That paired with a jersey on the players resembling the Athletics of the pro's sure was a strange eerie coinencedence. I love the decal bat the last player is holding.
Wish I could make out who's on it.

Hey Tony - I didn't think you were claiming that it was Collins. I have done hundreds (at least!) of these and this was pretty remarkable - this guy could've gotten a job impersonating Collins.

The obvious difference under magnification is the big curve in the outer edge of the real Collins' left ear.

The hardest part was learning how to post photos on Net 54 - next time it will be easy.

Interesting thread. I picked up this framed colorized photo from 1906 quite a while ago - never really investigated thoroughly. Any guesses who these boys are? Do you experts think there's any chance the guy in the second row (far right) is Cobbie in his rookie year?

Not Cobb, not Detroit AL. They Tigers used a similar though clearly different script D on their uniform. Also the caps are wrong.

Thanks for the info - got another opinion that this may be a team from Denver - but thought those "ears" and facial structure were Cobb-like.

I'm not even sure I would go with Denver on that photo. Denver had always been a fairly well funded team and would have had more than 10 players. My guess is you got a photo of a town/semi pro team.

Without famous or MLB players, the colored photo is a nice pickup and scarce. It's a called chalk portrait and is in the original frame. The color was added by hand over an original photo, all done in the photo studio. It's not worth a million dollars or anything, but is a nice 'type' photo.
